The quest, You're a Mean One..., is a daily quest that can be completed once per day during the Feast of Winter Veil. Upon completion, players are awarded with a Stolen Present which has a chance of dropping this companion pet.

Initial Wowhead data (based on 2751 openings) suggests a mere 3% chance of a Lump of Coal within a Stolen Present. So even if you complete the daily every day of Winter Veil 2011, you'll still be lucky to get the pet this year. And there's a good chance you'll still be missing Lumpy come new year 2013.

I'd like to add, that you dont need be in a group to complete the quest, if you just be around the place when the mob died you can compete it.

I got no group, so i just wait in the place and i help anyone that try to kill the boss, even the enemy faction.

So, if you are a lonely guy dont give up.

FYI: you can pick the quest up at the snowman but still have to go to Ironforge to hand in. Four chars and no Lumpy. I'd like to see Blizzard do away with RNG for seasonal things and just give tokens for dailies so that people can choose from a selection of items, or at the very least make them all BOU. Would mean a lot fewer disappointed collectors. Even with the low drop rate some people have ended up with more than one they can't use while others have spent Christmas a bit fed up.

It didnt drop last year, or this year and i have been spamming trade every day since the end  of Feast of Winter Veil. and finally someone answerd and sold me one for 300g. :)

I come from a low pop server and was having trouble finding one of these for sell or trade (and by that I mean no one was wanting to part with one.) So I got an alt on a high pop server to trade chat and offered to trade pets that I had about 6k invested in and got several hits immediately. Just something to think about if you're on a server that seems to have a low supply of these little lumps (and you're not lucky enough to get a drop!) So happy that pets are account wide now.

ran it on 8x85s last year every day with no luck, did same for first 2 days this year, still no luck :( saw one on horde AH for 3400g and thought sod it!, time it takes me to run all those alts around I could have earned the gold back :)

Now I'm happy ;)

Last year I tried it on 3 different characters each day and didn't see a single one. Today on my first try... Thank you RNG, I guess? Now happy that I finally have him :) Good Luck to you all!

According to statistics gathered on wowhead, the dropchance is 2.94%, or 2 in 68(1 in 34). Comparably, Frigid Frostling who is also available 15 days a year from a world event, only has a 3.59% droprate, or 1 in 28.

 

Logically, there is no reason why blizzard would differentiate between the two, if this is correct, using the statistical count on wowhead, the actual droprate for both combined is 3.05%.

 

I think its fair to say the droprate is programmed to be 3%.

Yeah looking for less RNG here - put it on a vendor for a high number of holiday-related tokens, up the drop rate, etc. I should have been farming it on alts since pets will be account wide but I didn't think of that until the last day - oh well.

I miss the old system from 2 years ago. The rng system leaves most people with anxiety trying to get pet and disappointment if they don't get it.

Buffing drop rate isn't fun such as sinister squashling where people were more upset that they kept having to throw out

I feel the best way to fix this would be to add a currency to daily bag, This currency carries over events (this gives reason to do events you have already loot from) The currency would be able to buy pets if you have poor rng

Well its not all hopeless, based on the 625 out of 21094 (current wowhead numbers) there is 41.8% chance of it dropping for a single character if you do the daily all 18 days of winter veil.

I hope it drops for my main, It will be my 4th in my collection of Molten Core bosses, I've already collected
Mini Magmadar,Baby Baron Geddon, and Lil' Ragnaros. Please drop Wee Garr

So far I've done the daily on 10 characters. 1/10 received the pet. I have 10 more toons to do the daily on and I'll update this.

Edit: On the first day of dailies, I did it on 20 characters. 1/20 received the pet.

Who says receiving a lump of coal for the holidays has to be a bad thing? I've been extra naughty this year in the hopes that I'd be more likely to receive this little guy. Here's hoping!
