Regarding the Frigid Frostling

Beautiful, wonderful, amazing pet
I want; I need; would do anything to get
But no matter what I do, how hard I try
It won't help me get it with how it's designed
It's a five percent drop with 15 shots max
Whoever designed this fail needs to learn math
This is sure to make us pet lovers insane
So before I find myself pet-less & blow out my brains
I'd like to say one thing to Blizzard execs:
If I'm dead I cannot buy your BlizzardStore pets!

Wowhead estimates a loot rate of 3%. If you kill Ahune at every reset I believe you should have 15 chances at it (including just before reset on the first day of the festival).

If this is right, the chance of getting it at least once for someone who makes every attempt is approximately 1 - (97/100)^15 = 0.367 or ~37%. If the loot rate is 5% it jumps to a ~54% chance

Assuming my figures are correct the majority of people who try their hardest still won't see it during this year's festival :/

Like a lot of people, I was not pleased with the drop rate or method of attaining this pet.

Personally, I think it's ridiculous to have something with such a minuscule chance of dropping be available for only 14 days out of the year, especially considering that it's a non-combat pet and does nothing other than add flavor.

Give it a ridiculously low drop rate if you must, but at least make it drop from the chest, so that it can be farmed. 14 chances at less than 2% per try are long odds.

After 4 years of summoning on 7 level 85s, which is over 200+ summons, I got it on my LAST SUMMON, on MY LAST DAY of the Mid Summer Event, what is the odds of that, last day/last summon after 4 years!

Yes, shares the same item graphic as a frozen orb, so be careful if you win it.

It's called "Ice Chip" and nowhere does it mention on the tooltip that it teaches you a pet.

It throws snowballs at people, which for 10 secs gives them a 10 sec effect of snowflakes falling around them. This is the same effect that Ahune's scythe gives upon use and is listed as "Infrigidate" in their buffs list.

The frostling will throw snowballs to any nearby character, whether they are in your party or not.

Rather annoyed over this to be honest, I am convinced Blizzard screwed the drop rates!

Monday: 1 on warrior
Tuesday: 1 on rogue
Wednesday (server resets) Nothing.
And nothing since.

Just to put this into a little more perspective. I have TEN alts trying this every day.

In the first 2 days (16 tries) I got 2, so I was optimistic. In the following 88 tries - EIGHTY EIGHT - not a one. And, watching some 400 other bags opening I only say 2 others - So what, a 0.5% chance now?

NOT HAPPY AT ALL!

I got the scorchling the first year that mid summer festival opened.
Since the frostling appeared (3 or 4 years ago???), I never missed a single day to kick Ahune's back with my 4 chars and guess what... It still on my "to get" pet list. I've got tons of capes and scythes on all my chars but that's all.
Well, I hope I will get it with the battle pet system :P (just kidding... or not ;))

Edit : Well, whine one time and the RNG God bless you. I just got the frostling today :P.

that damn... little slippery... disappoing... two years...... *sob* bwhaaa! *snort*

There should definetely be a more satisfying way to obtain seasonal pets like this one. I'm not talking of increased drop-rates here - rather, I'd love to see something only the dedicated collectors do (read: us), but isn't that RNG-dependent. Something that takes a fair amout of time (or skill!), and no one that doesn't appreciate pets (read: is in their right mind) would ever do.

We're starting to get pets that are perfect for certain classes. Lil KT and Frigid Frostling work very well for Frost Mages. :) /dance

The only problem I have with the Frostling is that there isn't anything frosty about him. He looks devoid of ice, really. I think they should make his body out of blue, translucent ice chunks, the same type used in a mages Ice Block. It would be awesome!

Seems kind of odd that they would leave the pet's drop chance ~5% when you only get one attempt a day. Isn't that the same as it was when you could farm it?

I bought mine on the ah for only 1.9k gold!! I was so happy when I saw him up there for so little I instantly purchased him without even thinking about (not that you really had to though I mean come on!) lol

Best of luck to anyone that wasn't able to get him to drop. Keep your chin up and keep checking the ah! :D

1 in 20 dropchance(5%) is slightly off. According to statistics gathered on wowhead, it is 1 in 28, or 3.59% droprate. Comparably, Lumpy who is also available 15 days a year from a world event, only has a 2.94% droprate, or 1 in 34.

Logically, there is no reason why blizzard would differentiate between the two, if this is correct, using the statistical count on wowhead, the actual droprate for both is 3.05%.

I think its fair to say the droprate is programmed to be 3%.

I almost ("almost") feel bad because the person who sold this on my server did it for only 3,000g, so I snatched it up. Now there are a few on the AH, with the cheapest being 100,000g. Lucky me!

My fellow pet collectors rejoice!

I know many (self included) have struggled to obtain this guy (or other holiday pets) for years, but on Tuesday, at long last, we can simply TRADE for caged ones!

I for one will be hoping to trade one of my three Lumpys for a Frigid Frostling come Tuesday. And since pets can be caged and uncaged cross-realm, I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to find someone somewhere who'll be interested.

Never shall I have to slay Ahune for this guy again!

As with many other posters, this is my least favorite type of "hunt" for pets. I went out of my way to log in each day and queue for the run, with nothing to show for it. Maybe next year.

Disappointed that Ahune no longer has a Scorchling to snag? Unfortunately the Scorchling literally burned him up inside. He only kept it because it melted his heart (again, literally). So now, without a heart, he prefers the cold comfort of the Frigid Frostling. And this Frostling has quite a 'chip' on his shoulder since no one seems to want him. But give him a chance... he can make everyday feel like Winter Veil, snow what I mean?
