I hunted for a rare of this little gal, finally found one. I remembered many comments talking about her tendency to commit suicide, so I changed the weather immediately after scorched earth was used. After doing that, it seemed fairly easy to capture with much less chance of having to do the log off trick, which is brilliant btw. I used my Celestial Dragon's weather which allowed for better healing, helped me lower hp for capture (it made my rare captureable) and a few turns to catch. good luck

Just thought I would mention what I experienced this morning. I logged in right after rolling restarts and for the first hour or so every second or third wild hatchling battle yeilded a rare.
Maybe just a fluke or a better RNG after reset?

Dragonling suicide is enough to make you cry, especially when you've farmed for ages and finally found that elusive rare. A couple suggestions:
a) Note that this dragon uses the lift off ability early in the fight which means you effectively miss a turn. The longer this fight goes, the more damage scorched earth does to the pet. It's important to get the dragon low enough to capture early, so you can maximize your capture attempts.
b) Use the Terrible Turnip pet, and make sure he's in your first slot. His humanoid damage brings the dragon down quickly which gives you more times to attempt a capture before scorched earth ends your fight prematurely. If you have to swap him in, you'll find you lose two turns.
c) If you think you only have one more capture attempt left before the dragon kills itself, don't continue. Exit WoW and relog. The pet will be waiting for you back at full health.
Just found a rare finally on a friend's dead server... and wouldn't you know, he killed himself with scorched earth. Rude Blizz.. just rude.
Camped the area all day yesterday (8+ hrs). Only 4 hatchlings spawned- 2 uncommon (gold and jade) and 2 poor. I did attempt clearing all the other pets and critters. One jade spawned shortly after first clearing, but several hours of it later no others had, so I think it was just a coincidence.
Logged in at same time today and there were dozens up! I got a rare crimson. Still just uncommon for the other 2 but I'm ok with that for now :)
So don't give up! They are out there. =)

I have been waiting for the serpents to spawn all day but they have not been here all day
This morning - Sunday at 09.00 am I went there and it was full of hatchlings! They respawned so fast I couldn't even keep up with them, and the area isn't even that big. Farmed for about 09.30, got a rare Crimson and Golden and then at 09.30 it seemed like the respawn rate suddenly slowed down to having to fly around for a few minutes to even see a fightable pet of any kind.
Saw these spawning like crazy while farming rep to get my mounts. The minute I hit exhalted and went to lvl some pets up to capture these beauties they disappeared. Haven't seen one for days :(

Finally got this guy today 11/7/12 @3:30am est now i have all 3, a rare version of each! Good luck everyone and dont give up! this guy was found on the island that you cross to get the quartermaster, its connected by a tiny bridge and surrounded by water where a bunch of frogs are seen hopping about.
been looking at all different hours for over a week now even right after server reset i have seen zero spawns
Do like I do, I always use the Azure Whelping in all my battles because it is so OP and if the Crimson Hatchling uses scorched earth then changed the weather yourself and that will cancel their weather effect and they won't die on you before you can trap them.

Yes...defently gotta watch out for that scorched earth! I found this guy (rare) shortly after becomming exalted an EVERY time i got him down fare enough to try an crate, he'd use it.
It took me about 6-7 attempts until i finally got th little guy. Heres a little tip. If yours kills itself, just relog. When you log back in he will still be there, alive an of the same quaility!found all 3 at 53 50 (right outside the Arboretum) all 3 were rares the 1st time gl guys
First time making a comment but did anyone else noticed that none of the Wild Hatchlings have animations? They all just hoover a little above the ground and do not perform the "trick" their counterpart Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling does.
Watch out for their Scorched Earth when capturing them... I instantly found one when I got Order to exalted... and then the little bugger kills himself by incineration. :(
