Patch 2.4.3 | Posted: August 7, 2008
As of August 2023, this pet can also be purchased from the Trading Post. Goods from this in-game feature rotate monthly, so this pet may not always be available.
Blizzard introduced an event called The Spirit of Competition to commemorate the 2008 Olympic Games. Throughout the event, this pet was randomly mailed to players who were victorious after any PvP battleground. There was a 1 in 8 chance it would be mailed to a player for each battleground won.

These stunning creatures, awarded to heroes for victory in battle, represent bravery and strength.
Easily the best pet to battle with. Huge heal and very large damage spells to combine with.
I use this as my Anchor, as it has always been the strongest in my groups.
The Spirit of Competition is returning for the August 2023 trading post! What a great surprise, after all these years I thought all hope of getting this pet was lost!
Love this pet. Was the pet that helped me through leveling my first set of pets to 25. If you have this, I highly recommend this for battles.
I've had the Spirit of Competition pet since 10/14/08. The Trading Post doesn't show it with a checkmark next to it, meaning it would allow me to buy it and that it doesn't think I own it. Is the Trading Post pet different in some way?
I am SO excited right now, FINALLY we are getting a pet on the trading post that was and has been unavailable for years (beyond the amount of years i've played, and I have played a lot.) :D Seriously can not wait!
OL 2016 starts very soon. I hope to see Blizzard give us a chance to get the pet this year. My internet connection was down one month in 2008 while moving, so I lost the event. My brother got it tho' and he dont even like the pet battle. He tried to cage it, but was unable.
I miss this little fellow...
@Thetaxman, You can absolutely prove it. Look in your achievements under Feats of Strength. There are 2 achievements that are tied to the 2008 Olympics. One is the Competitor's Tabard. A rather ugly tabard IMO, that is white with the 5 olympic circles on it. And Spirit of Competition - Proud owner of a Spirit of Competition Pet from the 2008 Spirit of Competition. Having received this on any character on your account will show it as an achievement on all of your characters.
When I first started playing WoW, I had one toon. When the Olympics came around I pushed my hardest to get this little guy. One of the best pets in the game. Hands down.
About a month later, I realized that I sucked at playing a warrior and started up a shaman, who became my main toon. Now everytime I log on to my warrior (he's been down-graded to banker) I'm reminded that my main will never have this most-awesome of pets.
It is now awailable from the trader's post!
rumor has it a mini-d pet could pop up on the trader's post for the future!
My niece, who introduced me to WoW, got one of these. Years later, her parents insisted she share her account with her sister, "since you don't even play anymore", not understanding the lull between expansions. Sister deleted the character with the pet.
This pet is one of the first I remember owning. Unfortunately, my son and I shared an account back in 2008, and I moved my main toon to a new account so he and I could play together. Now this pet is on his account (my original) and I am without it. He is playing Classic and could not care less about collecting pets. I tried to get Blizzard to move the pet, but they won't help. It is a source of deep regret.
This is a great pet if you get the chance to get one. I have mine always in my battles as my backup while I'm leveling other pets. Haven't figured out a name for him but he looks a lot like Mushu from Mulan :)
