Before patch 4.0.3, alliance characters could obtain this pet from the quest [48]Becoming a Parent.
Now the pet may only be farmed by both factions as a zone drop in Feralas.

Until recently, only us alliance folk were able to obtain this pet. I used to feel sorry for all you Hordies out there who didn't know the joy of owning your very own faerie dragon. I even suggested defecting to the alliance to get this little guy. In fact, I still do! Why? Because you'd be able to fight alongside adorable gnomes like me! Wait... why are you looking at me like that? *gulp* C'mon, put down that battle axe... *points* Hey, isn't that Thrall!? *blinks away*

Ok, so this pet is now official the hardest pet for me to get my little belf hands on (well, not that blood elves have small hands, but well..you know). I'm hoping the WoW gods are looking down on me while I write this and they take pity on me cause I'm starting to see Grimtotem Mauraders in my dreams! I do recommend if you are going to start farming for this one...take an alliance toon and round em up at New Thalanaar. AOE loot ftw. /peeks up and smiles at WoW gods hopefuly.
With this beauty you can 'solo' 6-7/10 Beasts of Fable if you use Life Exange. Sadly when using against beast it's an instant 25% extra damage, and he can't handle it alone... Regardless, it is definitely my favorite pet above all.
And it's a shame that Nether Faerie Dragon now has the exact same abilities...This pet's Life Exchange ability is very strong against the Beasts of Fable.
I only started playing a year ago. At first I just wandered around exploring and ended up in farals. I was such a new player that I didnt even know companion pets existed! and I was low level so mobs kept attacking me. I remember dying, a bunch. But I obviously killed the right one becuse, as I was vendoring I saw it. I SERIOUSLY almost vendored it. I had never seen somthing with the option to right click to do anything. So thats what I did, and got my first and favorite pet.
Got this pet back when it was for the Ally quest. Loved it from the day i got it.
It's speed makes up for the lower attack. And a well timed Life Exchange and change a loseing battle into an easy win. I know other pets have the spell but they don't look as cute ^^
If you want an easy equivelent of this pet the Nether Faerie Dragon is almost exactly the same except maybe for stats and it has different asthetics so head to feralas where it is easy to pick up a rare around dire maul tey spawn so regularly
Got this back in the day when it was awarded in the end of a quest chain. The chain and the fact that you would get this adorable pet from it was not well known back then, and we were not so big on checking every little thing online yet either. It was a well kept secret by a few of us for a good while. I have never been so happy to recive a pet before.. "Congrats, Akeleie. You're a parent... kinda"
Alliance toon: Went down to Mudsprocket, got the quest for a free flight to 1k Needles (via Feralas) killed my 7 horde npcs and the pet dropped. I was freaking out! Of course, I will not be keeping it, Mom is fond of the pet as well, and will be gifting it to her. Awesome pet all around, and love the description, lol.
Goes to show though, so often for me these things drop/spawn when I am NOT farming for them!
It dropped for me this evening on Nordrassil and I am an Alliance toon. Hopefully they have upped teh drop rate a bit because I'm not usually that lucky.
These pets are now 5k in the battle pet tab in the auctionhouse. I'm sorry for everyone who actually had to grind for one. I expect the price to go up, as anybody who collects will obtain one and there might be two actually found per year on a populated server.
I spent hours over several days farming this one, decided to kill the noxious whelps for the extra chance to get an emerald whelpling. After getting no less than SIX emeralds, i finally gave up and checked the AH. There were several for 950 gold, so I bought one :) This was pretty soon after MoP though, now the price is back up pretty high.
I wasn't even looking for this pet when I found it. I was levelling archeology and was killing to clear the zone I was surveying. I generally loot everything, then sell all the junk on my way to the next site. As I was going through my bags, selling my greys I found this pet. I was so excited, but feel bad for anyone that spent hours trying to get it. It makes a pretty great battle pet too.
They are now tradeable as battle pets, so if you don't mind spending a bit of money, check the Auction House! It'll save you a couple hours at least.
After spending hours farming I finally got one. The fact that I was farming for an emerald whelp and didn't even know these guys existed shows just how cruel the fates can be.
This guy has a pretty good kit for pet battling! With moonfire making his arcane blast hit harder you can easily take out an oponent in three turns! And if things start to get hairy he comes with evanescence to help you pull through!
The drop rate is 1 in 8k?? OO nvm then.
