Before patch 4.0.3, alliance characters could obtain this pet from the quest [48]Becoming a Parent.

Now the pet may only be farmed by both factions as a zone drop in Feralas.

I had the luckiest day - two emerald whelplings (roughly seven hours apart - I got my first after 30 minutes and then quested in the zone for the rest of the time) and one of these beauties after about an hour or so of farming the Noxious Whelplings!  The entire reason I stayed in the zone was because I was hoping for this drop.  I'm so glad I didn't give up.  I highly recommend farming this while you're questing.  Stick with it, people, you can do it!

I have had this pet for years!  This used to be a final reward for a quest chain that started in Feralas if I am not mistaken.  I had been collecting pets on my Warlock, but now all pets are for all toons.

BY FAR my favorite pet. The Sprite Darter has a stunning, unique appearance combined with S/S and a great moveset. Evanescence works wonderfully, as the Darter is faster than most pets and can "disappear" early, effectively blocking two of the opponent's moves. It can also pack quite a punch with moonfire and then a chain of arcane blasts, especially when the dragonkin passive activates!

Completely accidental drop from a Sea Elemental at the coast of Feralas. I had no idea this guy even existed and was quite surprised not only by the egg but also by the fact that it produced a rare battle pet when I opened it. And he looks cute. :-)

Something very odd is going on with the pet battles today.  I was having the issues of logging on that Blizz has been trying to correct all week.  Was doing the ach for 400 uniques.  I was at 389.  After the rolling restart I jumped to 399!  This beauty just appeared in my journal!  I know I never got it. also got a second Emerald whelpling.  Haven't worked out what the other extras I picked up yet but wow, thank you blizz!  I named him Mystery

Found it on the AH on Hydraxis for 2000 gold. Shook my head in disbelief as I clicked "Buyout" and ended the ridiculous grind. Still need the Emerald Whelping, so my work in Feralas isn't done....

I love this pet!!! Favorite by far. When it was a quest chain I did the parent quest chain after finishing up the start of the quest with 2 night elves who where trying to protect and free the sprite darters. Got him on a few alts back in the day. Had about 6 of them when they became battle pets.

Update: I got it today, FINALLY. I highly recommend farming the Noxious Whelp it only has a .001% to drop the Sprite Darter but you also have a chance for the Emerald Whelpling. The nox.Whelps are close together and respawn quickly. Using a druid was very fast!

Killing frayfeathers near the Ruins of Isildien and SpriteDarters near Camp Mojache because according to WowHead those 2 mobs have the highest % drop rate for the egg at a whopping .03%  Wish me luck!

I had gotten this pet just as I got Wraith of the Lich King. It had dropped and I was like its so cute.  I would run around with it on my rogue all the time.

OK, I'm confused. How does Alliance get the pet? I think I understand that for Horde they just run around and kill every living darter next to Mohaj.  Another I read basically said kill this or this or this. I got two emerald dragons trying out that theory. BUT no little darter.  Is there still an Alliance quest? If so, what is its name? Does it still work to beat the daylights out of the adult darter population if you are Horde?  You have me confused, step by step please.

This was a super rare drop from mobs back in Vanilla BEFORE being a quest pet. and now it is back to a drop pet, just not as rare as it was to get to drop back in the day. I farmed for a couple of weeks to get this one, with the help of my ex. It was little known, but when he got one to drop while questing and trying to not get killed he showed me and we headed off together to find one of these beauties for me. Good luck on the hunt! This is still one of my most cherished pixals <3

Can you loot this pet after you already have it? I wanted to try to farm it for my husband. I was going to cage it and give it to him. Is that possible? Thanks so much.

This should be your go-to pet against all Flying opponents. It has that amazing combination of taking less damage from their flying abilities (since it's a Dragonkin) but ALSO has Magic abilities, which deal 50% more damage against those same Flying critters.

Perfect combo! Not to mention she is a beaut! One of the few times the Blizzard Gods loved us.

I just got this dropped from a Noxious Whelp after about 220 kills.  I already got my Emerald Whelpling pet at a little over 100 so I consider myself extremely lucky, especially since I usually have terrible luck!  Don't give up!

Ok, so this pet is now official the hardest pet for me to get my little belf hands on (well, not that blood elves have small hands, but well..you know).  I'm hoping the WoW gods are looking down on me while I write this and they take pity on me cause I'm starting to see Grimtotem Mauraders in my dreams!  I do recommend if you are going to start farming for this one...take an alliance toon and round em up at New Thalanaar.  AOE loot ftw. /peeks up and smiles at WoW gods hopefuly.

These adorable critters love snuggling with their owners after a long day of brutal, bloody battle.
