Can be found in the area around Onyxia's Lair in Dustwallow Marsh.

These vicious fire-breathing whelps escaped Onyxia's lair and fled into the surrounding region. Handle with extreme caution.
Spawn of Onyxia can be found near Onyxia's Lair. I found mine at 48,75. It was a common. Flew in and just started killing off battle pets in the area and after about 10 minutes one spawned. Also got my Littlest Pet Shop Achievement on this guy :)
I just want to confirm that you can force these to spawn by killing the critters and battle pets directly around Onyxia's Lair. You do not have to battle the battle pets to kill them either. I've made three spawn in 20 minutes doing this.
Edit: Make that 4. But it may have been a coincidence since I can't seem to get it to work anymore.
Edit 2: Okay got 3 more to spawn. This definitely works. However I still think they're on some kind of timer so you can only force so many at a time.
Spent about an hour flying around waiting for one to spawn after having to white flag a fight with a green. Twenty mins after I started caught a poor - instead of the rare toad that was teamed with it. Flew around some more to try for another catch and killed whelpings while I waited. Got a rare Dark Whelping at 54.66 72.77 while waiting. Also picked up a rare black rat in the process of battlle leveing while waiting.
Finally! 16:56 eu server Vek'nilash, I found and caught my first Spawn of Onyxia! It was common but I dont care. I've camped the area for days waiting to get one and hadnt seen any sightings, so glad I've got this now. My heart did little somersaults when I saw the green paw!!
Half an hour after, 2 more spawned, one grey one green, so i have a green one too :)
Be sure to fly all AROUND the cave where these little guys spawn. Not a lot of folks are aware that they show up on the sides, as well as behind the cave. I found mine along the side and managed to snag him. :D

If you're having issues finding one, try this: talk to Zidormi, who's just before the bridge to Theramore. Return to the pre-destruction phase and the pets should start showing up.
After about 20 min of flying around finally got an uncommon then right after a poor spawned and nothing else yet. I'm just glad I got the uncommon :)
I LOVE this pet! I found only 1 and he was a common, but when I got a stone I upgraded him. He is now one of my main lvl 25's I battle with, and he does some nice damage. Did I say I love him? :)
Rather than focusing on finding a rare, I'd recommend finding a power build- 4/14 and using a battle-stone, since these have the hardest hitting tail sweep in the game. Even beating out mamma Onyxian Whelpling. On top of that, it's a faster farm.
Found an uncommon near the cave entrance. It was the only one I had seen since capturing a poor a few months ago. Oddly, there were lots of other players around...I guess none were looking for the spawn. Yesterday around 2pm ST. Not even sure if I want to level this guy up since the moves are exactly the same as the Onyxian Whelpling 5th Anniversary pet - already leveled that one to 25.
killed all the battle pets around like suggested and had 2 spawn. first was uncommon...screwed up and killed it...second was rare...didnt make the same mistake twice.
Got mine, wasnt farming it, I was actually farming whelps for the dark whelping. I didnt even think to look for the spawn, I saw it fluttering as I was doing pet battles between spawn times for the whelps. caught it and im super excited about it!
Camped for about an hour a week or so ago, finally found one (had to beat other campers to her), was poor quality. Happy with that, and unwilling to wait another hour, etc., I went on my way. Then, flying by this morning, I happened to notice there were quite a few of them around. Snagged myself a rare!!
Pet hits pretty hard and heals herself during the fight, but all in all the fight is managable. Found them around about 6am on Whisperwind.
Found one right out in the middle of the marsh. Was the only one in the area.
Despite lacking a particularly exciting moveset, this lil babe hits like a freight train, especially when its racial triggers.
Luck of the draw? First time rare? Was happy and i barely got it as i forgot to heal my pets up! Very happy.
Spawn rate is really slow, I parked an alt there and checked it 5 or six times over the course of several days before I found the rare. It's easy farming though, even my level 60 druid was one shotting the mobs. Definitely park a toon if you want the rare, so much less hassle.
I was extremely lucky. I was just passing by the mountain, saw a little green paw and decided, a spur of the moment thing, to go for it. Rare on the first go. I like this pet very very much.
Took me about a week of checking before I was able to find a Rare. I ended up parking an alt there and doing a sweep once a day. Definitely check early morning or late at night for more to spawn. I can't wait to level this one, I expect greatness from this darling little girl! :)
