Emerald Proto-Whelp

THE SAVAGE THICKET. All you need to know if you want to get this pet. As soon as I landed there, found an uncommon on the spot. Waited about 10 minutes and 3 poors spawned. Till trying to get a rare. Went out around a quarter to 5 am server time~

Was in Sholazar for approximately 20 minutes killing drakes, eggs, babies...all to no avail. Speculation: killing these mobs does NOT force a spawn. Guess I'll try back later =)

Not sure if it's CRZ bugging it or if I'm just really unlucky compared to the other commenters. I've been here killing the protodrakes for over 2 hours now and have yet to see a single spawn. =/

LOL! Apparently I just needed to whine about it. Tabbed back in from writing this and one spawned right in front of me. A rare one to boot! :) 

Followed some of the comments here and killed some of the protos while I waited. Took all of two minutes for one to spawn and for me to capture it. :) Not sure if killing the protos really works, or just a funny coincidence though.

this one can heal A LOT and can go from catachable to  full health  in 2 turns,  I had an uncommon and  it took out  3 rares of about the same level, I finally caught a common one but I switched to level 25s and made sure they all could heal. it (the common) healed enough to be a pain to catch

I was fighting these for a while (got an uncommon, but no rare). There seemed to be an endless supply at the time, but then they just vanished. I waited around for a while, but no more spawned. Strange.

Flew into the scorched area of Scholozar, and to my surprise there were about 7 of them spawned up in one area. I only engaged two, got an uncommon and a rare. Cute little bug, imo.

Got lucky at 6:30 or so server time on Zul'jin, a few were spawned and I managed to snag a rare and altf4 on a poor quality. These guys don't hit terribly hard, but are a nice "wall" pet for when you want to use a defensive pet. Their "emerald presence" ability will not only reduce damage taken, but will completely block out minor dots. On top of that, their emerald dream ability can heal almost to full health, useful for enduring insane nukes that certain pets can dish out.

When I went looking for one I didn't see any.  Flew over by Mistwhisper Refuge and one was there.  It was a rare.  Was able to beat all 3 completely with my level 22 Darkshore Cub. 

The Emerald Proto-Whelp did little damage (my bear was only down around 200hp after the entire battle without using Hibernate).  Mainly healed himself a lot with Emerald Dream and then Ancient Blessing.

I've farmed this guy a few times because I love him so much.  Be patient, they'll spawn.

Performance-wise, he's easily my favorite pet, and has been for several months.  I use him as a "ringer" for leveling new pets and doing the dailies.  Played properly, he's almost impossible to kill (in PvE).

I use a Breed 4/14 (full DPS) with Emerald Bite, Ancient Blessing, and Emerald Dream.  This gives him fairly good DPS and absolutely stellar heals.

I stalked the area for awhile and saw no spawns. My que for my raid poped so I went in and when the raid was done I came out hovering over one and he was a rare. Fate smiled on me.

Rocked up to the savage thicket, spotted about 7 of them all poor but one common attack breed which I caught and shall use my battle-stone on :D

I also notice that the whelp isn't on the safari list yet

Just got my yesterday at about 7pm server time on Dragonblight. Poor Quality but couldnt care less. I saw two at once but someone else got the other. Stoning this pet as soon as I get a dragon stone.

It makes the creepiest noise I love it!

This lil bugger was a bit of a brat when i fought my first one it kept healing itself lol...then i realized he was a rare and he was the first i encountered. there was about 5 up on Blade's Edge at 4pm.

I am a bit of a newb at collecting and don't really know what is a rare spawn or not. I was flying about today and saw an area with pets I had not collected on it, so I swooped down and grabbed the one paw I saw. Lucky me! I got a poor one, but that is what the stones are for, right?

After reading some of the comments, I made sure to level my team a bit before going after this pet (I engaged with two level 24's and a 23). There were no others on my server looking for this pet, surprisingly. Mine spawned just outside the burning trees, but I was hovering high enough with my minimap zoomed all the way out that I saw the green paw. I lucked out that it was a rare.  They are pro's at healing themselves over and over, so be prepared for a fight. 

So mad right now!!! After farming this guy for days i went to check and FINALLY there was one and better yet it was a RARE!! Well i have 3 lv 25 rares with me and i couldnt even get the whelp to below 30% this healing is just ridiculous!!! Needless to say i will once again be farming for hours for this little monster...

got 1 of these it's only an uncommon but for the 1st 1 i found after like 10 minutes of flying in circles and cleared everything in the area which then he spawned i'm not gonna complain

A rare quality of any breed (tho atk breed is best) will destroy pve pet battles. Able to solo most max level wild pet battles as low as lvl20, and at lvl25 able to solo many of the tamer battles.  Definately one to use a stone on if you aren't lucky with rare spawns.

I read JuneMoone's post and thought I'd try it.  Killed 1 drake and whelp spawned right next to me.
