Just got a rare, right where the map said. Had to go through about 10 or so. Definitely the catch of the day. I've had no luck finding a rare Nexus Whelping or Stunted Shardhorn today, and just came across these guys. Definitely improved my mood. :)
trying to find these drakes is starting to really piss me off, I hate wasting hours of my time for nothing. Do these things never spawn? I havent found any of the different types of dragon pets in all of their spawn locations.
Breath/Emerald Bite + Emerald Presence + Emerald Dream
This is the set-up that makes the P/P Emerald Proto-Whelp a force to be reckoned with. It is excellent against Magic Pets and the Scourge of Flying Pets everywhere. There is not a single Flying Pet out there the Emerald Proto-Whelp is incapable of devouring without a second thought, and any pet that has smaller, multi-hit abilities like Stampede should just give up outright.
met it at pvp one thing is clear its op nothing else this thing cant die XD
I just upgraded my Emerald Proto-Whelp from uncommon to rare and have been power leveling her in Gorgrond. Lots of flying pets to battle over there so Emerald Bite and Ancient Blessing, so she's been soloing mobs over there starting at level 19 and already up to 24. Move over Nexus Whelpling, I think my Emerald is my new favorite Dragonkin!!!
Picked up TWO rares (one a P/P), in a matter of minutes in the Savage Thicket about midnight EDST on a Sunday night...there were numerous of these flying around the area...I had my choice of them... :-)
I caught 2x Uncommon (Green) Emerald Proto-Whelps over in the Savage Thicket. They were flying there all by they lonesome. I have a Dragonkin stone I wonder should I make one Rare...idk. Emerald Bite/Presence/Dream is an awesome combo. Once you go Emerald, you never go back.
I checked Savage Thicket during day time hours a few times in the last week. I didn't see a single one. Had insomnia this morning (3am my time) so logged in and found a rare on my first try. There were 5 or 6 milling about too. If you're having a hard time finding these pets, definitely check during off peak hours.
My first capture fight was against a low-level wild whelp so tough it took at least 10 minutes - I would beat it down, then it would heal back up, then I would beat it down... I was so impressed with it I would have kept it no matter the Quality (not Rare, unfortunately and still impressively). As it turned out, I ended up with two of different breeds, and they've been valuable in Pandaria's Master Tamer fights.
Emerald Proto-Whelp (P/P) perfect pet for taking out the Pandaren Air Spirit and its buddies (solo). They are all weak attack against dragonkin. Also a pretty solid pet for pvp battles as well.
This guy is Amesome sauce................................................. a must have for any true battler especially PVP
If you are just starting to get serious about PvE pet battles, these guys are a must-have. Don't get discouraged if you can only find them in uncommon quality, because they're still quite strong, and a P/P breed is totally worth a future battle stone upgrade. Good luck! :)
I find it most convenient to hunt for these immediately after doing the Argent Tournament dailies(if you haven't gotten quite everything from them yet), and doubling up by hunting Stunted Shardhorns at the same time. The area these guys show up in is small enough that it doesn't even take a full minute to do a full lap before going back to try for the rhino.
Go for P/P, with Emerald Bite/Presence/Dream. Turned flyers into total jokes even before maxing out.
I've found quite a few while doing simple fly-overs of the area - 2 uncommons, a common, and several poors. I snagged a poor and later an uncommon for myself. No rares yet, but I'll keep checking (or just use a battle stone if finding a rare proves too hard |D)
I was also pleasantly surprised to find that this pet will fly with you in the air! It always bothered me how the other whelps seem earthbound, but now I've got a little air-travel buddy eheh
This pet is pretty freaking amazing. Mine solo's the whispering pandaren spirit trainer every day without breaking a sweat and I usually have at least 75% health at the end of it. Just use emerald bite, presence, and dream.
Didn't even know this pet existed (or a lot of others, just found this site earlier today!) but... Yeah. I'm totally going back to Northrend now. I want.
picked up a rare last night only one there got lucky.
This little fella has been helped me to get half of my collection, the healing skill Ancient Blessing is great to take advantage to use more traps!
Just picked a (rare) at 10:30am est went back the next day and picked up another (rare) at 7:40pm est. Not sure about a spawn timer, just make sure to get one or three of these. OP
Ridiculously strong healing pet and beastly against flyers.
Use Emerald Bite, Emerald Presence and Emerald Dream and you are set to go.
EP is a strong shield, scaling well with its skyhigh power and providing protection while you snooze and amputating dots. Heals scales extremely well with high power.
One of my most used pve pets. Even more durable than Son of Animus.
