Killed 500+ whelps in my first session, no luck. Tried again a week later, killed 200 ebon whelps, I was about to give up. I said to myself "five more kills then I'm hearthing." dropped a dark whelpling on the penultimate kill :)

Farmed for more than 8 hours, 1329 mobs killed, didnt find one =( this is quite sad =(

---

After trying more than 9 hours and killing more than 1500 mobs I decided to quit, my boyfriend tryed a little more without any result. I started trying again next morning and, without any expectations, Ive dropped it after less than 100 kills =). It was really surprising lol
My conclusion is that It doesnt matter how many whelplings you kill, its only luck!

So good luck you all ^^

This pet is pretty fun from an RP perspective. I mean owning a baby member of the black dragon flight? Epic indeed.

i think farming it in badland would be the wiser of the 2 places. being that the ONY raid is back and running for 80's there are more people in the zone, IMO

There's always a surreal feeling that you get when it's been a long grind for a pet.. like you're sleep deprived and slightly confused at what's happened, then it hits you! That's how I felt after finally getting this guy to drop. He's still one of my favourites

The Dark Whelpling is a very versitile creature and a useful member of any pet team. It is a powerful combatant against Flying, Magic, Water, and other Dragons.

Perhaps the most useful aspect of the Dark Whelpling's moveset is that it has enough power to destroy another creature near outright, thus passing its racial benefit to damage over to the next unlucky foe.

A well-timed combo can instantly kill dragons such as Master Aki's in a single blow.

In Burning Steppes farming Flamescale Broodlings and I am at 1400 kills so far and no drop. The information on this site doesn't seem accurate. :/ I am wondering if I should switch to a place with a better drop rate like Dustwallow or to Wetlands so I have a chance to get the crimson whelping as well.

Update: Over 1500, no drop, switching to Wetlands.

Update: Stopped in Badlands instead and got it in 400 kills! And quickly, too since they are bunched together for multiple kills unlike BS.

Final Edit: I DID IT! 7 hours and 2600 kills later, I got my Whelping from the Badlands. Best piece of advice? Don't give up, even if you are going crazy. XD

Edit: Wetlands is terrible. DON'T GO THERE! 1692 kills and no drop. I am trying my luck in Badlands.

1457 kills. 4 hours. I heard this site was magic and gave you some luck. I am hoping that proves true...

One of the quests in the tiny flamefly questline requires killing 5 broodlings. That's where my dark whelpling came from. Totally unexpected; in fact, I didn't notice him until clearing out my inventory after turning in the quest.

Farmed this in Wetlands, got it the first day on my 516th kill, was pretty lucky, though it took about 4 hours to get at lvl 100. They do spawn very fast, i just went up and down one side of the area without any trouble.

@ thunderburke. No. I am A level 100. Somehow I got lucky and got the Crimson, Emerald, Azure, and bronze all tonight. I did however notice that when the NPCs start spawning faster and dropping better loot the pet is soon to follow

i haven't read this but have a theory and would like to see if anyone thinks this aa well.  Reading through this makes me wonder (i may be just out of the know as well ..lol). Does your level affect the drop rate.  For instance higher level less chance?
