Prior to The Shattering, the Azure Whelpling dropped from Blue Dragonspawn, Draconic Mageweaver, Blue Scalebane, Draconic Magelord in Azshara.

After Patch 4.0.3a this pet was relocated to Winterspring as a zone drop.

Johnathon- You are immeasurably lucky to have gotten those other drops in such small kill amounts. For the Dark Whelpling, I spend several days doing nothing but farming (only stopped to sleep), first 1600 or so kill in Burning Steppes, then 400 more in Badlands when it dropped finally. For the Black Tabby I spent at least 1000 kills and left without ever getting it. Camping for a rare Onyxia spawn was easier than this drop farming.

Just got my Azure Whelpling and thanks to your comments it only took me about 50 kills... Was able to get him off of the slimes in the Frost Cave. I can't wait to start training him up... Thanks for all your input.

I was REALLY lucky with this one, as i found it in the AH for only 30 gold!!!

Literally just got this guy after about 200-300 kills.
My strategy was to just go along with the quest line, only kill everything in sight, along the way!
Finally got lucky; VERY LUCKY.

Ohh... and he fell from a Winterfall Den Watcher! :D

Just hit a combined 25 hours of farming for this booger.... No luck yet...

Found the other 3 whelps in minimal time.

This guy is insane!!! But im selling a butt load of leather from yetis =)

Only 753 kills since i started counting - which was after doing all the quests. Not bad - I came back and did the Timbermaw rep and only seven days into the Wintersaber trainers rep grind. Quite happy with this farming session and brings up my 145th. Black Tabby next...

Tiny Crimson Whelpling? 225 kills. Dark Whelpling? 147 kills. Tiny Emerald Whelpling? 139 kills. This whelpling? Been farming for 6 hours in winterspring with the help of 3 guildies (I know if RL so they won't steal if they get) and NO ONE has got it D: Does this thing even drop anymore? :S

I have been farming the lake for 4 days now, about 6 hours/day. No azure whelpling. I'm starting to think the drop rate is broken or somehow it's a bugged item.

I was working on my Winterspring Mount and on my last daily stumbled upon the Azure Whelpling from an Owlbeast. I squealed so loud my boyfriend jumped :)

A suggestion to those farming this pet since world drop farms are the most painful. If you don't have the timbermaw rep start working on that because it then serves a purpose to the farming (and at least for me makes it easier) or if you haven't finished/or have never done all the quests in winterspring then work on those. I farmed the rep for the timbermaw and the pet did drop for me although it may not be the case since it's 1/10,000 drop. Don't give up hope on this little scaley beauty!

Have been farming this now for a few days, 1300 kills later still nothing. Im finding the frostsaber cats the best as theres so many of them and i can skin them so make some gold while at it. Sure hope to get it soon though :)

I know a ton of pet collectors who are gonna be thrilled to add a blue whelpling to their collections. Finally a cobalt cousin to join the black, red, and green dragon whelps. Yup… Azshara's about to get a whole lot busier! Funny — I never thought I'd utter those words.
