This is one of several raptor companions introduced in patch 3.2. It is also the first pet sold by vendor Breanni, the NPC inspired by the creator of this website. Increasing your reputation with the Kirin Tor faction will give you discount on this and other pets sold by Breanni.

Don't be fooled by people selling this on the auction house for 100g+ when checking for pets. You can get it in Dalaran for 50g or less from the gnome herself in infinite stock, depending on your Kirin Tor reputation. ;P You'd think this would be common sense to any pet collector, but my server's AH is overflowing with people reselling these pets on the AH for very inflated prices with the other raptors to trick others into thinking they're rare...

I just realized something. This little guy is almost identical in coloring and in its eyes to the new Venomhide Ravasaur mount. The only thing that it doesn't have that the mount does, is the extra white markings. And, the only thing the pet has that the mount doesn't, are the cute little beads and feathers. That's just awesome!

I really like the raptor pet series, and I hope they release more. The best thing about this pet (by far) is the fact that you don't have to spend countless hours sitting in a jungle looking for a nest or killing every raptor in Azeroth.

I made a deal with Hemet Nesingwary so that my Dalaran pet shop is constantly stocked with Obsidian Hatchlings. Hemet sends out his hunters to steal the young of obsidian raptors for me. In return, I conjure up large batches of some of the best vegetarian mana biscuits he's ever had. What? You didn't know? Yup... Hemet Nesingwary is a vegetarian. But do me a favor and keep that on the down low. After all, Hemet's got a reputation to uphold.
