Hunting Log, Day 2: I've only just begun my raptor hatchling expedition and I'm determined to be the best hunter I can be. What? Why are you laughing at me? Look, just because I'm a mage doesn't mean I can't be a hunter too. Range? Wand for the win! Pet? Water Elemental to the rescue! Aspects? Mine's called "Aspect of Arcane Brilliance!" So I can be a hunter as much as the next — wait a sec... my water elemental needs feeding. And darn it! I think I'm out of ammo again...
The mobs are just far enough apart that you have to ride from one to the next in a lot of cases, druid instant cast flight form makes it very quick. In addition, there are a ton of frozen herbs, which can be harvested while in flight form. I ended up with about 18 stacks of herbs.
There are a few places where you can aoe 3 at a time, but for the most part, it is single kills.

We are all kidnappers, slaughtering the parents to steal their innocent children. Their cute, innocent children. Who apparently don't miss their mommies and daddies.... Perhaps they were waiting to be rescued by us?
Update: After 9 hours and 2258 kills this little guy is finally mine! Perhaps I didn't invoke the luck power of the post properly...
1447.. going strong.... 1876 and calling it for today.. 3 days in a row farming. still nothin :/

finally.. today after 4571 kills. i GOT IT.

For those who like to count their kills:
One circuit around nets about 33 or so raptors, so three circuits is close to 100 kills.
Raptors always drop either a Sharpened Raptor Talon or a Sparkly Raptor War Feather. I've yet to see a raptor that drops both or neither, so counting your stacks of those can also help you keep track of your kills!
I'm at 1500 and still counting; no hatchling yet but I'm not giving up! I just keep telling myself it'll be with number fifteen-hundred-and-one...two...three!
I decided to start farming this on my hunter since I was in Zul'Drak and wanted to see if there were any other cool pets to get. I killed about 30 raptor, then had to leave to do something else. A couple days later I had to come back with my shammy to get herbs, and I decided to take another shot at it. I did about 2 hours of killing all the raptors I saw, and it just dropped on about my 200th kill of the day. Very excited to have this guy to go along with my Lashtail. Wouldn't sell it for 10k... :)
It took me about 1250 kills before this hatchling dropped for me, and a week of farming, with at least 100 kills per session. I counted 1228 kills, but I had a few more when doing archaeology in the area.
Either I am really lucky or they upped the drop rate. I got it just now after 33 kills.
dropped on kill # 190. it is a rare, so no worries about leveling right away as c/uc, then loosing 2 levels to a beast biscuit upgrade.
Been farming on my S.Priest alt, up to approx. 350 kills with no luck yet.
Very easy to get 2-3 per pull using SW:P.
I highly recommend using a priest/lock/mage(living bomb) to do this.
Love this guy for battles. Hits like a truck and can heal on finishing move.
One of my favorites and recommend everyone with him to lvl him up.
After a lot of time spent farming with no luck, I just managed to buy this from the Black Market Auction House. It had a 10k starting bid like other pets.
got it after few more grinding :)
