This is one of several raptor companions introduced in patch 3.2. Upon its initial release, this pet dropped from Dart, a rare spawn who circles through northern Dustwallow Marsh roughly every 5-8 hours.
As of patch 3.3, the Darting Hatchling became a lootable item from Dart's Nest.
This pet will occasionally run around in a random pattern leaving a trail of dust behind.

Hunting Log, Day 14: Today my raptor hatchling expedition brings me to Dustwallow Marsh in search of Dart. Dart's a particularly fast raptor, so I've come armed with a giant turkey dinner and my favorite slow spell. My plan is to slow the beast, lull him into a false sense of security by feeding him a four-course meal, then I'll let the tryptophan do the rest. Of course, this all assumes I tag him. Everyone and their mother seems to be hunting him...

Hatchlings: Leaping, Darting, Razormaw, and Ravasaur Hatchlings no longer drop from their associated rare creatures. Instead, there are now rare nests that spawn which contain these hatchlings. For example, the Leaping Hatchling can now be found in Takk’s Nest rather than as a drop from Takk the Leaper.
Since Dart is such a quick devil, I used the macro:
/target Dart
/cast Curse of Exhaustion
Not only is CoE my spell with the furthest distance, but it's instant and slows Dart down significantly, while also aggroing him. This is definitely not necessary, but to any 'locks out there, this is a nice little macro to use. I'm sure other classes could do something similar. ^_^
His darting speed is affected by your current speed, so mount up for hyper speed.
This pet is part of the new special vanity pets tracking achievement which has been data mined from the 3.3 PTR
As Sateena said, "It tracks several of the rarer pets including whelplings, raptor hatchlings, crocolisks and more".
1. Get the addon NPCscan for alerting you to a rare in the area.
2. Make a target macro: /targetexact Dart
/stopmacro [noexists]
/script
playsoundfile("sound\\Interface\\raidwarning.wav)
He spawns at 47.14, in the hills in back of the wreaked camp. On a 6 hr, 21 min respawn. Got him at 11:51am and 11:32am, EST. Weekdays are best, try to get close to the spawn point to avoid ninjas. Fly into Brackenwall and go west to 47.14!
On my server, it's a fairly active raiding server, that means a vast majority of the server population is in raiding instances from 6pm - 10pm server. That makes it an ideal time period to farm this and other rare spawn mobs.
Either that, or you could always just burn the midnight oil one night, and snag it at 2am during one of your insomnia sessions... but I wouldn't know *inno*
I just snagged mine while I was flying through Dustwallow to do some Archeology leveling on my DK. I stopped off in the area, and after about 20 seconds, I saw Dart run past. I checked a couple nests and found his on the third one. Now back to Un'Goro to try for the Ravasaur...
Used Tom Tom and the four way points that Orlendis shared. Worked perfectly my first time there, found the nest on the 2nd way point. Thank you so much for this information.
I got mine at: 46.6, 17.1. Took me less than 1 minute to find it after using this macro:
/way 48.0 14.2
/way 49.2 17.5
/way 47.9 19.0
/way 46.6 17.1Just make it a macro, it's the locations for the 4 nests. Once you reach the location try to see if there is a nest close, if not, move to the next waypoint. If none of them bear results, wait awhile and try again.
Found the 3 nests on the 3 mounds but got the hatchling in the nest(48,14) back under the trees north of them.
I reached the area with TomTom coordinates already on, and I notice a guy killing raptors. "Ok I'll have to come back :S" I look at the points and find nothing, when I'm about to leave one last arrow points upwards. I follow it and find the nest. In like 3 minutes. Even easier than the UnGoro one :DDD
on alexstrasza found it @ 48, 19 next to a tree and debris from a cart -- promises to be a lovely pet
Good hunting!
