This wild pet can be found in The Gaping Chasm and The Noxious Lair in Tanaris. It only spawns during sandstorms.

Patch 5.1 Hotfixes - December 10
"Silithid Hatchlings should now be less elusive."
They still only seem to spawn during sandstorms but it looks like you don't have to be there only when the storm first appears. Rejoice!!I've been regularly checking Tanaris for sandstorms ever since Pandaria opened, but had only seen one sandstorm before this morning (and there were no spawns at that time.) But today I finally got lucky. Not only did I arrive during a sandstorm, the spawns were plentiful. As I flew around The Gaping Chasm (I never needed to check The Noxious Lair), there were dozens of the little teal bugs waiting to be battled. My second battle was an Uncommon. Because the respawns were so frequent, and there was only one other person in that area battling, I decided to keep hunting. I wound up getting one Rare of each breed. It took me about 25 minutes total. I never had to search for more than five seconds to find another spawn. By the time I left, there were two or three other players looking for pets and the respawn rate was just as plentiful. Hopefully this is the norm now and it won't be quite so painful to get one of these weather-dependent bugs.
I'm leveling like 8 pets right now, and they were all in that 12-14 range, so I basically just went around tanaris killing the local battle pets, getting mithril nodes, fishing oily blackmouths. . .basically just things to keep me busy. Eventually (maybe 1.5 to 2 hours), a sandstorm started, and I rushed over to the gaping chasm to find it full of Silithid Hatchlings. Got a poor quality one and left the others for other people, I'll upgrade it to a rare with the battle stones coming next patch.
Mynxie is quite correct..it does appear the best time to catch this guy is be there for the start of a storm. I plopped my dk 2nd acct alt at the chasm at 8am est on Sunday morning, watched all day til finally at 9:03pm est(6:03 crz st) it came in. Each chasm had a few dozen spawns in 2 waves, got mine and stayed to report. All spawns were dead within 20 minutes of start..high number of people. No more hatchlings were spawned for the remaining length of the storm. It ended at 11:10pm est. Hope this helps..happy hunting!
Been waiting since the start of a sandstorm, nothing has spawned. Are they bugged and not spawning with the sandstorm?
Got mine tonight there were a ton of them and they had a very quick respawn time as well so I kept going until I found a rare.
I think respawn time is fixed on these now so it is just waiting for the sandstorm

Confirming, this one spawns at the beginning of the storm and for a few minutes. Two storms in a row, first one missed the beginning and no pets to be seen. Today, luckily logged on my alt and it had just started. Only saw two, first i got was uncommon and second was poor.
It seems these little guys are currently disagreeing with CRZ on when they should spawn. A friend alerted me to a sandstorm on my home server at about 8:30am EST - no spawns. Same friend said a contact had talked to a GM who said the spawns were bugged due to CRZ.
Second hand information, I know, but it was backed up by the fact that I logged into a 'toon I had camped in Tanaris on one of my old servers - sandstorm was up and there were several spawns.
Okay so over the last week I have logged in to the middle of 4 sand storms total and spent time flying between the two possible spawn locations and finally this morning at 6:45am server I saw 1 after looping both locations again. This pet has a very frustrating spawn rate >.< I nearly gave up on it.
1st time arrived at the nest's when the sandstorm already started, no spawns so assumed I was late.
2nd time camped at one nest until sandstorm, kept switching between the 2 nests but no spawn and I was only one on my server here, unsure about other server players.
3rd time started killing every mob and 20 mins later sandstorm appeared, carried on killing mobs but at the end still not a single spawn.
I have even killed the rare spawn here twice.
Wonder if its bugged...
I too have been waiting days for a sandstorm, camping most of the day. It's finally here and there are no spawns! :(
Edit: My third sandstorm, and this time both hives were filled! It took me all but one of them to find my rare! /Happydance
I'm sitting in my second sandstorm now, with zero spawns. Last time I waited for an hour and saw none. I was the only person here most of the time. Do they respawn continually during the storm, or only at the beginning?
Edit: 4th storm now, still no spawns.Sandstorm was going on for about an hour. I patrolled through the two sites, switching every 15 minutes or so, but was unable to find any Hatchling. There were three or four other people there at the beginning, but they left after half an hour. =l I've been waiting so long for it to storm and then when it finally does, there's no hatchling! If ANY actually spawned, they were quickly snatched up. Very discouraging.
They reportedly spawn only above ground, but only during a sandstorm.
Just saw them up when there wasn't a sandstorm and now that there is a sandstorm there's not a one to be found in either place.
I just got this guy at 8:15 pm EST on Kirin Tor realm. Lots of them everywhere, and I was lucky enough to get an uncommon too :)
Sandstorms covers all of Tanaris when they happen but this guy only spawns in Noxious Lair & The Gaping Chasm it doesn't help much but Sandstorm Zul'Jin at o8:45 on 3 may 2013 lasted about 10min.////update another storm today this one around 3:30 lasted around an hr
Finaly got it today, had a alt there and as soon i log in there was a sandstorm and i got my rare at 1 try and there where allot others but i was happy i had it. happy hunting all. only 1 to go :)
Finally, my parked alt awoke to sand blowing in his face. Found a rare after about half an hour of desperate hunting. As this lower level alt had no bandages, to avoid the 10% health penalty for fleeing, I'd use my Azure Whelplings 'Surge of Power' to kill the secondary pet in one hit so I could get back to hunting that rare down asap.
Found a rare 7:53pm server time, found the rare in the southern silithid lair. There were a bunch of uncommons in the nest to the north and west. Hope this helps someone
