After about a week of camping, I finally see snow! 8 am server time(11 my time), caught mine around K3. Snow is indeed zonewide, there are foxes spawning everywhere. I have not had an issue with quest phasing and this toon only completed a handful in Storm Peaks. Helped 2 guildies get to current crz area, we all managed to catch a rare on the 2nd try each. Snow lasted 1hr, foxes spawned throughout the entire duration.
I'm starting to think global warming has affected Storm Peaks. Been checking every 15 minutes since I got up...no snow. :(
The snow is not seen unless you are on the ground. I did a flyby, and saw the green paw for the Kit before I saw the snow. The Kits will respawn until the snow is finished. My last Kit that I ran after vanaished right as the snow stopped. I didn't get to it in time. My sugestion is to take an area and circle that area, don't try to fly all of Storm Peaks area - you waste too much time. They do spawn quite fast. Foud it at 6:29AM, snow stopped at 6:55AM.
Is there a schedule of when it snows in Storm Peaks? I have been camped out for days just farming stuff while I hunt for this Fox ... and it has never, ever snowed. Why is this place covered with snow but it never snows?
This place kinda sucks. I saw NOTHING at all. Not one critter, beast, etc. Got all the other pets in Northrend. One last ditch effort before I stopped bothering, it was FINALLY snowing. Fox kits all over, heavily farmed. I was able to secure 3 - 2 poor quality around K3 and 1 common quality around the Engine of the Makers (big hole in the ground).
update: 1 more poor quality @ snowdrift plains.
Seems after the reset this pet is spawned all over the place regardless of snow or not, after batteling a fue thy dont seem to respawn so if u are missin this one, get em befor there gone.
Right-o, it doesn't need to be snowing. Found many of them wandering about in a few places after server reset yesterday. Whelpling so just decided to just fly by and "see if it was snowing". It wasn't but there were several kits in more than one of the spawn areas. They even seemed to be re-spawning! I only got common, but I know at least one person got an uncommon. We were spotting for each other in that.
Anyone else notice pet collectors seem far more courteous than folks like your average herb-and gankers? Lol
Just got mine south of Terrace of the Makers on a hill at 6:48am realm time. Was poor quality and appeared with a mountain skunk and a spider. No snow that I could see, though my graphics are low. Saw no other spawns.
It's snowing in storm peaks now 10:33pm est 12/16/12 just got my Fox Kit in plain of echoes by camp Tanka'lo. Hope this is helpful to someone. Happy hunting!!!! :-)
Got my rare one in the middle of Snowdrift Plains around 8:11 st. Saw at least 5-6 foxes around here. Temple of Life is another good spot as well as south of Valkyrion around ice lakes - about 4-5 at a time
Caught the snow and picked him up today. Got an uncommon, which is fine for me right now given how many others are looking two. Seem to be lots of them around K3, but they're also available elsewhere, just not quite as many to be found--at least that's my observation. About 12:15pm on Whisperwind. Happy hunting!
I noticed the same last night. I was looking for the Unborn Valkyr and there were Fox Kits all over with no snow falling in the areas I was at. I did land too to check if it was snowing.
This pet wasn't too bad to get, compared to the other "weather" pets (at least, for me). Parked my priest at crash overlook, and just kept checking for snow every few hours. Eventually, saw some flurries, and got really excited. Found one on a mountain top - and after falling off twice trying to get it to battle, the snow stopped and it despawned! I moved to E3 for camping, and a huge blizzard happened a couple days later, finally! I got a rare one. Took ~5 days, on Gul'Dan, ~12:15 PM server.
Been trying and trying for this pet, I have 2 alts and my main parked here and check several times a day...never seem to log into snow...read thru all the posts and tried all the helpful hints, but still no fox...very frustrating!
Been flying Storm Peaks for an hour or so. Resigned to the fact that foxes do seem to spawn only in snow. I was looking to catch anything to fill that hole in the achievement Northrend Tamer. Nothing. Nada. Zip. I've decided the foxes are all sleeping off their full bellies. :p
Was getting ready for bed and decided to check on the Arctic Fox Kit on Tuesday around 11:45 pm on Lightbringer. My druid was parked at the inn and there wasn't any falling snow. I took quick look outside. Sure enough right outside the inn was a little green paw. I decided to check on the Scourged Whelpling and about 100 yards from the 1st paw was another paw. I flew the entire zone and there was absolutely no falling snow. There was plenty of them and they were even respawning.
I had been camping Snowdrift Plains for 2 days without any snow. I decided to try my luck and log on just after server reset this morning and it was snowing.
It was snowing for a long time, well so long that I managed to get my first one which was an uncommen and then to keep going until I found a rare.
I'm not sure if the weather will always change like that after server reset, but it is worth a try.
I used Jendiah's advice below today and it worked like a charm. Thank you! I picked one area and once it started snowing (took a few hours for me), I stuck to that one area and the spawn was consistent. It snowed for quite awhile, long enough for me to get a common, and then check a good twenty or so until I got a rare. There was no one else in the area, or I would have stopped with the common. Anyway, good luck on your fox hunting. :-)
Just got this guy right outside K3. Not a snowflake in sight. Doing a fly around right now and I don't see another paw anywhere in the zone so far. Maybe there are glitch spawns?
Beside cross realm phasing, could there be quest phasing issues with this and other SP pets? I flew around for about 20 mins on my mage who never quested there and saw no battle pets at all.
Update: Quest phasing doesn't seem to matter. SP pets are just not abundant. Looked off and on for about 4-5 days.
Got mine (rare) just b4 server/cross realm restart! Not sure if that had anything to with it or if it was coincidence. Saturday 9:15 am w/snow.
