This pet is obtained via open-water coastal fishing on the Darkmoon Island. See El's Extreme Anglin's guide: Catching Sea Pony for more information.
Players may only farm for this pet one week per month due to the Darkmoon Island only being accessible the first week out of every month.
The Sea Pony has a unique summoning animation in which the player's hands are enveloped with globes of water, and a splashing animation and noise is made upon the pet's spawning.

I always wanted a pony when I was a small gnome, but I never imagined I'd find one living in a bubble! No... it's not quite the pony I dreamed of as a child, but it does provide a percolating playmate for my water elemental.

Fished for 150+ casts in various spots on the island, and while I didn't get the Sea Pony, I did get the funny hat that makes a debris pool. So I put that on and went to the cave. Fished for a bit more, not too sure as it was really late, but nothing came up. Logged off still in the cave and the next day, fished for about 20 minutes when I caught my precious Sea Pony! I'd say fish the cave, seems to work for lots of folks. Happy hunting!
Based on the 3 times I've caught one, the rate is closer to 1 in 400 casts. But I have to admit it's worth it. This guy is cute as all get out!
Fished in open water for days... nothing. 20 minutes in the cave I got this and a rare hat!
One day I noticed this pet is available to me atm and decided to spend the evening fishing. I got mine at around 400-500 casts directly on top of the npc Teleportologist Fozlebub. I tried to look for the cave people are talking about, but couldn´t find it. I did some fishing at the dock first, but later on moved to the shore. I also want to let people know it doesn´t need to be a pool. Wanted to share my story to balance out the ones telling they got it at under 10 casts or so.
I picked up the fishing skill right at the darkmoon fair, started fishing down on the dock inbetween the portal and the fish master. took 110 casts :P
Just caught the Pony at the small dock with the tent. I had on my weather beaten fishing hat, Nat Bagles extreme angler FC-5000, and a nightcrawler. my fishing experence/lv is 256(not sure if it made a difference). Took me 25 casts:
8-darkmoon lobsters
11-stonescale eels
3-summer bass
1-lg mightfish
2 clams
does anyone know if i can catch a RARE one?
About 210 casts in the cave that others have described. Whew!
I was lucky to come across this cutie in AH for 450g. I feel bad for the person selling it though. Happy Collecting err..buying!
10-15 minutes, by the teleportation gnome. :)
I finally got this little baby! 10:32 p.m. right off the dock! I have been trying over the last few days, tried by various parts of the dock and went to the cave. I got it on my 107th cast :D Super happy!!
178 casts in the sea cave netted me this beauty.
wow i just successfully fished up a sea pony in only 4 casts. Good luck to you all guys!!! :)
It's just RNG. I got mine on the 3rd cast in open water, standing next to the gnome by the dock.
cast 297 times over three sessions, about 2.5hrs total
I just found this pet by accident. I was on the dock next to the portal doing my daily for +5 fishing. on my fifth cast i reeled this in.
took around 40 casts, i was mainly fishing the shipwreck debris. it was one of those schools to the right of the dock that had my pony.
I specifically went to the underwater cave East of the island and took over 250 casts to get the Sea Pony. My sister fished in open waters and got it on her 10th cast. She brought in another toon and got it on her 30th cast in open waters to give it to her husband, who had done over 150 casts with no luck. I personally think it's totally RNG and the cave has no bearing.
I got this on my 14th cast just 40 ft to the left of the docks. Not sure it's worth the effort to try and find some special fishing location.
Fished this up today in 449 casts. I was in the undersea cave that others have mentioned.
Just had to post cuse a friend told me to fish in front of the DMRabbit cave to have better luck catching this guy (between 10-100 casts) but after more then 100 casts there was nothing. So I checked wowhead and the cords were way off. Its actually an underwater cave about halfway up the east side of the island and out to the edge of the water shelf (when you see the fatige bar your out far enough). You'll see a large sunken ship. Its just below the ship.
Second cast. Much better rate.
