General Info
Q: I have a pet-related question. Where should I go?
A: First, we suggest looking over the Companion Pet Q&A. It provides a great introduction to the subject and answers many of the most common questions about these adorable companions. Topics include:
- Companion Basics
- Combat and Companions
- Owning a Companion Pet
- Collecting Companion Pets
- Collector's Editions
If you decide you might like to begin a collection of your own, you might also check out the Minipet Collecting Guide, which is full of tips and tricks for getting the most out of pet collecting and this site.
Q: I have a pet-related suggestion. Can you pass it along to Blizzard?
A: WarcraftPets.com is not affiliated with Blizzard, nor do we have any official ties with Blizzard employees. If you're eager to share a suggestion for a new pet or a pet-related change with the game developers, your best bet is to do so at the official WoW Suggestions Forum.
Q: I'm new to this site. Do you have any tips?
A: Our best advice is to poke around and explore a bit. But if specific tips are what you seek, here are some random tips that could help.
Q: Where can I learn more about the author of this site?
A: Check out the Q&A with the site creator.
Q: Do you have an advertising or affiliate program?
A: We've recently begun advertising on this site. Provided you're not in the business of gold selling, power leveling, or pushing PDF gold/leveling guides, feel free to contact us to inquire about our rates. Be sure to provide a link to the site you wish to advertise.
Q: Can you add mounts to the site?
A: This has been suggested by many of our visitors, but we'd prefer to keep WarcraftPets dedicated exclusively to vanity pets so we can continue to bring you the most thorough coverage of WoW companions on the Web. Perhaps one day we'll consider adding mounts to the site, but it won't be any time soon. For now you can track your mount collection at Mania's Warcraft Mounts site.
Account Management
Q: How do I become a site member?
A: Signing up for site membership is easy! All you need is a valid email address. Create your account today!
Q: Can I become a member without having to give out my email address?
A: No. A working email address is required for site membership. You can be confident that your email address will remain private and that you will NEVER receive junk email from this site. Trust us—we hate spam as much as you do.
Q: I'm having trouble creating my account. What should I do?
A: The suggestions here can assist users who experience difficulty signing up.
Q: Can I create more than one account?
A: Creating more than one account is permissible, but you will need multiple valid email addresses; one for each account.
Q: How can I change my username?
A: Go to the account management page. (Note that this page is always accessible by clicking on your username in the upper right.) From there you can change your username, email address, in-game data, and other options.
Q: How can I change my password?
A: For security purposes, only a Site Admin can change a member's password. Contact us to request such a change. Please state your reason for the request.
Q: Can I permanently delete my account?
A: Only a Site Admin can delete an account. Contact us if you wish to delete your account. Please state your reason for the request.
Q: If I don't log in for a while, does my account expire?
A: Yes. Members who are inactive for more than a year are automatically deleted from the system.
Community Concerns
Q: How can I contact another member?
A: You can use the site's messaging feature to send private messages to other members. You can find specific members on your realm using our collector finder.
Q: Does this site have any rules?
A: Yes. The rules are clearly spelled out in the User Guidelines. All users of this site are expected to abide by the rules.
Q: Who moderates this site?
A: Site Admins moderate and maintain WarcraftPets.com. Check out the Meet the Team write-up to learn about each of our admins.
Q: Will you know if I lie about my collection?
A: Yes. And if we don't know right away, we'll find out soon enough.
Sometimes dishonest members report a false collection to rise to the top of the Top 50 collections list. This is a clear violation of the User Guidelines. Our vast knowledge of minipets gives us a sixth sense about whether a collection is legitimate. If any of us are suspicious, we'll request proof in the form of very specific screenshots emailed within 24-48 hours. Members who do not provide undoctored proof within the allotted time will receive disciplinary actions.
Keep in mind, the point of the Top 50 list is not to promote cutthroat competition. It exists to inspire new collectors and to showcase the achievements of long-standing collectors for all of their hard work.
Q: What happens if I break a rule or two?
A: We are fair-minded, but we have little tolerance for misconduct. We employ a three strikes and you're out philosophy. Members who break the rules once will typically receive a warning. A second offense will result in a second warning, plus the member's account(s) will be flagged, thereby limiting site priviledges. Any final offenses will result in the permanent suspension/removal of the member's account(s). Attempts to create additional accounts will be blocked.
Note that we reserve the right to flag or suspend a member at any time if we believe the circumstances warrant such an action. We also reserve the right to deny any offending visitor access to the site entirely.
If you choose to become a member of this community, please respect the rules and keep your demeanor light and fun. After all, this site is all about fun. We ask that you do your part to preserve that spirit while logged into your account.
Q: I was flagged because of misconduct. So what?
A: Flagged members are ineligible for a Top 50 ranking. Additionally, all comments made by flagged members are hidden from public view. Flagged members are also hidden in search results. Furthermore, the ability to message other users is disabled. Finally, so long as a member remains flagged, he/she will be ineligible for MVP status.
Over time, if a flagged member behaves, the flag may be removed at the discretion of an admin.
Q: How do I report someone who's breaking the rules?
A: If you notice someone breaking the rules by reporting a false collection or engaging in other inappropriate behavior, simply contact us and report the member by name. We'll investigate the matter as soon as we receive your grievance.
If you wish to report someone for a specific comment he/she made, click the [Report] link found directly adjacent to the comment.
Q: Why are some members shown in green and others in orange?
A: Members whose names appear in green are Site MVPs. These individuals have supported the site in major ways.
Members whose names appear in orange are Top Raters, indicating that they've taken the time to provide a rating for every pet on the site.
Q: How do I become a Top Rater?
A: Simply provide a rating for all 154 pets. Note that when a new pet is added to the site, this title expires. However, it can be immediately restored once a rating is provided for the new pet.
Q: Can I ever change my rating for a particular pet?
A: No. Once you cast your vote, it cannot be changed.
Q: How are the Top 50 rankings determined?
A: The Top 50 collections are ranked based on the following criteria:
- FIRST: The number of pets collected (more pets = higher ranking).
- SECOND: The last time the member was online (more recent = higher ranking).
Note that in order for members to be listed on the Top 50 Single list (where pets are collected by a single character), the character's in-game data must be submitted.
Q: Will this site ever get a forum?
A: One day, but no time soon.
We're all aware of how useful a forum would be. The challenge is finding a platform that will interface with the custom database used by WarcraftPets. If we can't find one, we're forced to build our own platform, and that will take a lot of time that we just can't spare right now.
So while it is possible, it won't be happening for a long while. For now, we encourage members to use their community comments and messaging to share with one another.
Collection Management
Q: Some pets aren't listed on this site. Why?
A: This site is dedicated exclusively to vanity pets. To be considered a vanity pet, the entity in question must meet ALL of the following criteria:
- The entity is summoned via a summoning spell found in the character's Pets tab.
- The entity counts toward various Vanity Pet Achievements.
- The entity must have the tag of <companion>.
NOTE: Entities that do not follow the above guidelines (such as the Haunted Memento and Blood Parrot) will not be listed on our site.
You're free to collect items that do not fall under this site's definition of a vanity pet, but they will not be added to the database. However, if you discover a true vanity pet that's missing from the site, please report it here.
Q: How do I set up my pet collection?
A: To set up your collection, you will first need to sign in to your account. Then go to the My Collection page to manage your collection. From there you can update your collection, enabling you to do the following:
- Exclude any pets from your collection that you have no intention of collecting. Note that it's best to do this step first, before checking off any pets.
- Check off each pet in your collection. Please be honest—false collections are a violation of the User Guidelines.
- Choose whether your collection spans one character or multiple characters.
- When you've checked off all of your collected pets, click the 'SAVE LIST' button at the bottom of your checklist.
You may return to the 'My Collection' page and check off additional pets whenever you wish to update your collection.
Q: When viewling other members, I've seen a dot and a plus sign. What do these mean?
A: A dot (•) denotes that the member is collecting pets with a single character. A plus sign (+) indicates that the collection spans multiple characters. Initially, all collections are set up as single-character collections.
Q: How do I change my collection to a multiple-character collection?
A: Sign in and go to the Update Collection page. At the bottom of your Wanted Pets checklist, you'll see the words, "My collection spans:" along with two options. Select the option for "many characters" and save your list.
Q: Can I track my collection for both a single character and multiple characters?
A: Yes and no. No, you can't do this with a single account. But because of this restriction, we invite members to create an additional account, using one account to track their multiple-character collection and the other to track their single-character collection.
Q: I need help getting a certain pet. Will you help me?
A: Sorry, we cannot help you collect your pets in-game. But we'll gladly continue to support your collecting efforts by regularly updating and maintaining this site.
Supporting the Site
Q: I love WarcraftPets.com, so how can I help?
A: There are many ways you can help. Donations made through PayPal are extremely useful. There are also other ways to help that cost nothing except a bit of your time.
Q: How will my donation be used?
A: Donations are primarily used to support monthly operating expenses. Extra funds are used to support the community with site contests and other projects.
Q: I'd like to donate, but I don't have a PayPal account. What can I do?
A: If you don't have a PayPal account, you can easily create one. PayPal offers safe and secure transactions without the need to repeatedly divulge credit card information. After you've set up your PayPal account, you can easily submit your donatation.
Q: I'm unable to donate. Can I still become a site MVP?
A: Yes. Members who freely offer their time to help support the site and the community are considered for MVP status. This type of support includes regularly sharing news, offering encouragement to the community, writing guides, and helping others when the opportunity arises.
If you think you've earned the title of MVP, please contact us and offer a gentle reminder of your past and present deeds.
Q: How I do I submit a guide?
A: We'd be happy to consider adding your guide, provided it's a good fit for this site. To learn more about what's required to submit a guide, click here.
Q: Can I volunteer as a site administrator?
A: Volunteers are always welcome when needed, but there is a lengthy screening process.
If a Site Admin position is available, you may submit the application form. Remember, this is an unpaid position, akin to an internship... but Brian Brolin, WarcraftPets' owner and operator, would be happy to write you a FANTASTIC recommendation!
