Take some solace that you get many more fragments per site than before. That change came just after I got mine. Also over 100 of my solves were before they increased the number of Tol'vir sites in Uldum.
I don't want to know how much of my life was spent trying to get that pet.
Perhaps you could farm gold and camp the AH. With pets being account wide, the prices are bound to drop as more people level alts and sell off excess pets they get. You might have more fun grinding gold then just constantly digging. Think of youreself as lucky to have that choice now!
Crawling Claw is what made me swear off Archy for about the last 2/3 of Cata and was a small-ish contributing factor in my taking a break from the game in Cata. (The other reasons were my raid group breaking up and all my friends quitting WoW)
I'm only at 80 actual Tol'vir solves, but most of them were done back when getting Tol'vir sites to pop at all was like pulling teeth (so I count the nearly 200 nelf solves I have as part of the total). That said, I snagged a Darkmoon Eye for relatively cheap and traded it plus a couple other pets for a Claw. Never having to force myself to grind Archy again is the sweetest gift ever.
I'm sorry to say that I didn't have any problems getting the Crawling Claw. I'm not sure how many solves I've done, but what I really want is the Ultramarine Qiraji Battle Tank. The claw is certainly something I wanted, it was just a bonus on my way to the bug mount that I still don't have. I got a second one grinding for the Vial of the Sands on my alchemist alt as well, which I traded for a couple of the card game pets. I actually haven't touched archaeology since Mists launched and I got Realm First Zen Master Archaeologist.
I think i did about 200 solves, but most of my solves came before the buff of the number of fragments you got, i also got the mount in that time. I really feel sorry for those that have to use so much time on getting it, it felt like forever for the relativly "few" solves i did :/
