My 1st Celestial Tourney!

Post by Kel » March 31st, 2014, 11:37 pm

Finally got it done! First I want to thank everyone who gave me advice on the other post. It really helped.

I went with:

Taran Zhu -
Mr. Grubbs / Lost of Lordaeron / BlightHawk (BlightHawk lived)

Chen -
Menagerie Custodian / Emperor Crab / Twilight Spider (Crab lived)

Wrathion -
Used him to heal what ever lived from first two battles.
Marsh Fiddler / Flayer Youngling / Scourged Whelpling

Then the Celestials:

Zao -
Pandaren Water Spirit / Chrominius / Darkmoon Tonk
Oddly enough, I noticed I had the wrong team after I won. I had intended for this team to be used on Xu-Fu. Luckily, they all lived so I healed them on Yu'la till full.

Xu-Fu -
Pandaren Water Spirit / Chrominius / Darkmoon Tonk
Worked again on the right battle. All lived, so heals again on Yu'la till full.

Chi-Chi -
Pandaren Water Spirit / Chrominius / Arcane Eye
Figured it might work again, but swapped the last slot for "backup". All lived again, so heals on Yu'la till full.

Yu'la -
Pandaren Water Spirit / Chrominius / Bonkers
Figured I'd see if I could just ride the Howl-Bomb all the way out. With Bonkers in reserve, it worked.

I really need to learn the rounds better and make sure I have the right abilities chosen. Almost lost the Yu'la battle due to picking the wrong moves for Bonkers. I'm now the proud owner of my very own Xu-Fu! 8-)

On to next week!

Grats on getting the fight done. I see a few new pets in the list from what you were originally trying so leveling up a couple more pets seem to have helped. Assuming you want to continue doing this for the other three pets (9 more weeks) you may need to level up some additional pets for the other sets for the first three trainers and may want to work on teams for the celestials that don't require healing and reusing the Howl bomb to make things go quicker but that first one is the toughest.

Yea, for sure I had to get some other pets. I had to go find a S/S Flayer and level him. I also leveled a Mr. Grubbs and I leveled a couple other undead and humanoids that I ended up not using. I'm not opposed to the howl-bomb method as long as it keeps working. We'll see how things go. It sure does open up more options for the first 3 battles!

The Tourney resets today, right? So now I gotta figure out teams for the 3 for this week. I'm taking a vacation Friday for a week and a half. So I have limited time to get this one in. Hopefully it goes well. I'm open to any advice on teams for this week!

Yes. It did reset today but I can't recall off hand which set of trainers we'll have this time. The howl bomb is definitely a good way to handle the celestials initially as it is effective and uses a minimal number of pets. It just isn't the quickest option with having to heal pets up and could be broken at any time if Blizzard finally decides that they don't want to allow this.

If the cycle continues this week would be Shademaster Kiryn, Wise Mari, and Blingtron 4000. My list breaks them down as

Wise Mari: Moth with Alpha Strike and Moth Dust, Mech Panda Dragonling (find an engineer friend if you don't have one), and a Frog or Strider pet (strong preference for striders)

Blingtron 4000: Frog or Strider pet, Crab (for shield, I use spirit crab), and any elemental pet

Shademaster Kiryn: Lofty Libram (for Curse of Doom + Amp magic but just need a lot of dmg to get him down), Terrible Turnip (Sunlight, Tidal Wave, and leech seed), and Darkmoon Tonk (any mech pet will work here)

Most of them can be caught at high levels or should be easy enough to get/level. The only tricky one might be the Lofty Libram

Thanks for the info Regillixavatar,
I think the only ones I don't have in your list are the Mech Panda Dragonling and a Strider. Not sure on levels of my Lofty Libram or a frog. I'll have to look into those.

Edit:
Snagged a Mech Panda Dragonling off the AH for 400gold. 8-)

Well, since I am totally nosy I checked your armory out XP. It looks like you have a rare Lofty Libram at level 6 so if you can level that one and the Dragonling you should be set. In another good note you have two rare striders at 20 and 21 and I honestly prefer them for the frog/strider spots (mostly because I looove pump). If you are still looking for a frog, you can likely get away with the ones you can catch in Pandaria and then only have a couple levels to hit max

I forgot to mention that your crab for Blingtron 4000 should have Snap since it is strong against the critter opponent. Shields will make the damage almost non-existent

I find that for Mari pretty much any pet with sandstorm trivializes the fight because you can change the weather on the first pet to remove the bonus dmg and then you reduce the ae dmg against all pets and you pretty much end up killing his first pet while taking no damage at all. I use a Qiraji Guardling and a Mech Panda Dragonling and use them to carry a third pet. Your anub idol should work here. The experience isn't great for the carry pet, ~1200 exp i think, but it's easy to do so why not. The carry pet is usually a lvl 23 or 24 pet I'm trying to finish off with out wasting extra exp from a tamer.
