Your favourite PVP teams

Post by Malignus » December 16th, 2013, 3:57 am

What are the PVP teams, you're usually running? Right now, I'm trying 4-5 different ones, and would like to try something new (leveling new pets and never using them again is kinda boring). I thought we could share our teams and discuss their strenghts and weaknesses.

1. Nocturnal Strike team:
- [pet]Gilnean Raven[/pet] (2, 2, 1)
- [pet]Crow[/pet] (2, 2, 2)
- [pet]Vampiric Batling[/pet] (1, 1, 2)

The point is to have [ability]Darkness[/ability] up and use [ability]Nocturnal Strike[/ability] on cooldown. It's obviously easily countered by teams with other weather effects, but fortunately two of my pets can use [ability]Darkness[/ability].

2. Conflagrate team:
- [pet]Fel Flame[/pet] (1, 2, 1)
- [pet]Harbringer of Flame[/pet] (1, 2, 2)
- [pet]Phoenix Hatchling[/pet] (1, 1, 2) or (1, 2, 2)

I start with [ability]Scorched Earth[/ability] and then [ability]Conflagrate[/ability]. If the enemy kills my Fel Flame and changes the weather, I still have [ability]Immolate[/ability] on another pet.

Both teams rely on synergy between the abilities. You can make similar teams with different pets. I'm quite surprised that I never battled someone using the same or even similar teams to mine. My win ratio is somewhere between 60-75% and hugely depends on rng and who I'm facing.

Re: Your favourite PVP teams

Great thread idea! Here's some of the teams I'm currently rotating through:

1. MurkaGeddon

- [pet]Murkalot[/pet] (1, 1, 1)
- p/p [pet]Blackfuse Bombling[/pet] (1, 2, 2)
- s/s [pet]Gilnean Raven[/pet] (2, 2, 1)

You start with Murkalot and RI into the Bombling for Armageddon. With your opponent's pets all at half life, Gilnean Raven comes in and finishes the job, it's speed suddenly even more of an advantage. If the Raven falls, Murkalot is standing by at full health with Falling Murloc for the fatal blow (thanks for the nerf, Blizz!). Be sure to play around annoying abilities like Deflection and Feint. This team struggles against Elemental pets, as they are resistant to Armageddon and Nocturnal Strike (due to weather immunity). Magic pets are resistant to Geddon to a lesser degree due to their 40% damage taken cap, but it's not that big of a deal. Games against skilled Val'kyr players can get tricky, as they'll use Haunt to avoid an Armageddon. (On the other hand, less skilled Val'kyr players can be baited into Haunting right into an RI powered Geddon, leading to instant death for the Val'kyr.) This team absolutely feasts on beasts, as they have no way of escaping the Armageddon and getting sent to near death.

2. Sunlight Control

- h/h [pet]Unborn Val'kyr[/pet] (2, 2, 1)
- [pet]Blossoming Ancient[/pet] (1, 2, 2)
- [pet]Magical Crawdad[/pet] (1, 1, 2)

You whittle away at their pets with Val'kyr/Poisoned Branch/Sunlight while keeping your own pets alive with the Ancient and the Crawdad. Every other Wish or so gets passed to the Val'kyr. You want to make sure to keep Sunlight active (until you go for the kill at the end) so that any HP gained in excess of 100% remains on your pets. If/when it comes down to three of your pets at over full health vs. one stubborn healing pet of the opponent's, you then let Sunlight die and use your numbers advantage to smash them in. This team mainly struggles against opposing pets than can change the weather; Ravens are an absolute nightmare. Pets that deal large amounts of damage fast, such as a p/p Kun-Lai Runt, can also be trouble if they manage to kill off one of your pets before you have a chance to establish control, as you need all three of your pets alive to run your game plan.

3. Conflag

- [pet]Ominous Flame[/pet] (2, 2, 1)
- [pet]Ominous Flame[/pet] (2, 2, 1)
- [pet]Lil' Ragnaros[/pet] (1, 2, 1)
- [pet]Pandaren Fire Spirit[/pet] (1, 1, 2)
- p/s [pet]Red Dragonhawk Hatchling[/pet] (2, 2, 1)
- h/p [pet] Fel Flame[/pet] (1, 2, 1)

This is basically your classic Conflag team where your sole game plan is to incite burn and use Conflagrate to deal large amounts of damage, and fast. (I listed a whole stable of Conflag pets because I frequently rotate between them. There's two Ominous Flames in there because, quite honestly, he's that good due to Spiritfire Bolt. No matter what combination I throw out, an Ominous Flame is guaranteed to be in there. I'm tempted to try running three.) Due to the heavy elemental aspect of this team, critters and aquatic pets are bad match-ups, whereas mechanical-heavy teams are dream match-ups.

4. Lightning

- [pet]Thundering Serpant Hatchling[/pet] (2, 1, 1)
- p/s [pet]Skywisp Moth[/pet] (1, 1, 2)
- p/p [pet]Spineclaw Crab[/pet] (1, 2, 2) or [pet]Fossilized Hatchling[/pet] (1, 2, 2) or[pet] Clockwork Gnome[/pet] (2, 2, 1)

Your game plan here is to maintain a Lightning Storm while dealing damage via numerous separate attacks to maximize the lightning strikes. The bad match-ups are teams with reduce-damage-per-attack moves. Elemental teams, teams that are also capable of doling out numerous separate attacks, and teams that can change the weather are also unfavorable match-ups due to how they negate your Lightning Storm advantage, but only slightly, as your team can just ignore the lighting and resort to straight beatdown when needed.

5. Blood

- p/p [pet]Spineclaw Crab[/pet] (1, 2, 2)
- temporarily [pet]Chuck[/pet] (1, 2, 2), soon to be replaced by another p/p Spineclaw Crab
- p/s [pet]Skywisp Moth[/pet] (1, 1, 2)

You make them bleed, then deal a huge blow with Blood in the Water. Be very careful of switches early on; it usually pays off to delay the Blood in the Water for a turn to be sure. The Skywisp Moth is there due to the bleed/Call Lightning synergy. Just like with the similar Lightning team, your biggest worries are reduce-damage-per-attack moves.

i love my team, and even though its not the most OP one out there i think its quite fun to play:
-Unborn Valk'yr (2,2,1)
-Scourged whelpling (2,2,1)
-Clockwork Gnome(2,2,1)

i was at first switching around my first pet with pets that matched oponents i saw myself going up against alot, but the valk packs such a punch that she's now a permanent member of my team. I love the backline healing on my gnome :)

My first team was:

- [pet]Unborn Val'kyr[/pet] (2, 2, 1)
- [pet]Stitched Pup[/pet] (1, 2, 1)
- [pet]Tranquil Mechanical Yeti[/pet] (1, 1, 2)

Fun fact about this team: you can use [ability]Consume Corpse[/ability] after every Val'kyr [ability]Haunt[/ability] and it works (the game treats every pet that died, raised from the dead, and died again as a "new" corpse). I'm not sure the Yeti is the best choice here (I kept him for [ability]Call Lightning[/ability] + [ability]Haunt[/ability] combo).

I once battled a [pet]Murkalot[/pet] + [pet]Fossilized Hatchling[/pet] and I was completely floored. It's a shame [ability]Righteous Inspiration[/ability] is unique to a 100$ pet. :(
Also: I think you meant a P/P [pet]Blackfuse Bombling[/pet] since there's no B/B breed and no reason to use such if there was.

Fast Sandstorm:

-S/S Quiraji Guardling (1,2,2)
-P/P Emperor Crab (1,2,1)
-H/S Restless Shadeling (2,1,2)

Seems to lose darkness teams and teams with multiple hard hitting mechanicals, and beat everything else. Which works for me!

I have some good results with the following team:

Spawn of G'nathus (1, 1, 2)
Unborn Val'Kyr (1, 2, 1)
Guardian Cub (2, 2, 2)

I mostly start with the Val'kyr for the classic CoD en then Haunt combo. If my opponent has a Val'kyr I start with Spawn of G'nathus instead. As an aquatic he takes less damage from dots and undead. If my Val'kyr is haunting I use Spawn against mechanicals and elementals if my opponent has them. Otherwise I bring in the Cub. I start with Cyclone -> Wild Winds. Onyx Bite is great against flyers and Clyclone wears down the oponents backline pets. Plus the Cub is very fast. The Val'kyr mostly mops up the last pet with Shadow Slash. She's a great tank and more than once she's saved my ass with her 'return to life' undead passive.

Fungal Abomination (1,1,2)
Infected Squirrel (2,2,2)
Nether Faerie Dragon (2,1,1)

Lead with an S/S Faerie Dragon and get Moonlight going. Then spore up and root opponents and stampede. Repeat.

Unborn Val'kyr is too common these days. Mix it up folks.

Never gonna happen...especially if they want to win badly. They'll just use Murkalot and/or Stitched Pup to combo with it. It's super cheesy, but effective.

I use the Val'kyr along with Spawn of G'nathus and the Guardian Cub (see post above). The Val'kyr is a solid pet, but I agree that it's not really creative. The problem is to find a good and strong undead pet that can replace it and still do well in pvp.

So far I have been thinking about the Lost of Lordaeron, Restless Shadeling or Creepy Crate. Do any of you know a good replacement (with humanoid attacks) for my Val'kyr? One of the above, or another?

Im a clonedancer. Seems I'm the only one in my battle group, at least during the hours I'm online.
Imperial Eagle Chick(341 Power) - Change this for Blighthawk(273 speed) if you face lots of anubs, just makes things smoother.
Jademist Dancer(317 speed)
and a fast finisher, 341 sped death adder hatchling for most of the time and that is mainly because of all the vales in my battle group.

Recent fun team
Fiendish Imp(333 speed)
Kovok
Chi-Chi(1,1,1)
Gate the never ending Valk, then immolate. Switch to Kovok and Black Claw. Now that someone finally started using Death adder hatchlings in my battle group Chi-Chi is great against that as well as handling all those sons of animus around.

Old trustworthy team from heyday of Direhorns, still fun to use.
Blighthawk(273 speed. 1,1,1)
Imperial Eagle Chick(341 power, 2,1,2)
Scalded Basilisk Hatchling(305 speed, 2,2,1)
1 stun, each pet can avoid with lift-off or Feign Death, hard hitters all. Trouble with sandstorm, but blight hawk can remedy that. Always sacrifice eagle when in doubt. Don't forget to eat the corpse. Start with basilisk and go from there. Eagle has no 2 in first slot, just to take care of annoying critters(read rabbits), and against all things but fliers it hits for about 180 per hit(x2 or x3). Facing a flier let the blight hawk get it below 50% so you should be faster except in a few cases.

I've had a lot of success with an H/S Restless Shadeling on the team I posted above in this thread. But it's more of a defensive pet, between Plagued Blood and Phase Shift, and its damage output isn't great.

Lost of Lordaeron, however, is pretty similar to Unborn Val'kyr.

I actually used this team for my first 90 wins. I think it strikes a really good balance between being good and being fair/fun. I'm not sure what my record was... probably won 60-70% of my games. Unfortunately, I got my Scourged Whelpling before I knew about breeds, so I was using P/S version (which is inferior for the 2,2,1 setup). I have since switched to an OP team...

Anubasath Idol (1,1,1) - I'm currently running "Crush," but I have seen a number of Idols have success with "Demolish." I'm not sure which one is correct.
Unborn Val'kyr H/H (2,2,1)
Magical Crawdad (2,1,2) - "Snap" is probably better. Actually... now that I think about it, it's definitely better. I'll have to change that!

This team is just standard control. It doesn't do anything special... it's just very powerful (and a lot of my opponents probably hate me for using it). It went 18-2 yesterday, and I can promise you that I'm not playing it at the highest level. I'm making a number of mistakes and still winning (this must be what it feels like to play a Mage). I'll post some of my fun teams later.

For me I use for my weekly 10 battles : Anubsath idol
Lil Ragnaros
Lil Bling

And for kicks and giggles I might throw in magical crawdad, but no problem knocking out my battles :D

OK, another team of mine.

- [pet]Ghostly Skull[/pet] H/P (1, 1, 2)
- [pet]Lil' XT[/pet] (1, 2, 2)
- [pet]Fossilized Hatchling[/pet] (1, 1, 2)

You start with the skull and hit the enemy with your basic attack. You try to time your death, so you could use [ability]Unholy Ascension[/ability] on the turn you die, and [ability]Ghostly Bite[/ability] on the next one. Then the fun starts. You bring [pet]Lil' XT[/pet], buff yourself with [ability]Heartbroken[/ability] and start [ability]Tympanic Tantrum[/ability]. When the robot dies, you can finish the job with the undead raptor with [ability]Bonestorm[/ability] and other attacks.

You can use a P/P [pet]Pocket Reaver[/pet] or a [pet]Personal World Destroyer[/pet] instead of [pet]Lil' XT[/pet].

I like using Gilnean Raven, Pandaren Monk and Lil' Rag. It is not most strategic team but it gets work done usually.

I tried this one, but with a [pet]Sprite Darter Hatchling[/pet] (he's a bit more durable and still fast enough). It doesn't seem to work that well against most teams I got put up against. Humanoids, critters and aquatics pose a great threat. Not to mention the weather changers (Sandstorm makes this team unplayable). The [pet]Fungal Abomination[/pet] is not a good pet by a long shot. I'm tempted to try switching it with a [pet]Sporeling Sprout[/pet] or a [pet]Tiny Sporebat[/pet]. Both don't seem that good though...

Trying out this one at the moment, quite fun.
Snarly
Curious Wolvar Pup(maul hits for a whole lot when bleed is up)
Kovok

Bleed lasts for 5 turns, so more than enough time to make switches and put up black claw or maul. Also Snarly is quite useful(as any aquatic I guess) against all Valks I seem to face.

Haven't been able to do Bleed + Black Claw + Maul combo yet, but that one should hit crazy hard. But too much work with two switches I guess.

Got a Bleed + Black Claw + Maul combo when a mob killed my Kovok so I got a "free" switch. Didn't really hit for excessive amount, just above 1k. So too little gain for a double switch move. There are easier combinations that hit for a lot more, with one or no switches required. Still like the team though.
