Indirect Encounters

I was wondering if there's any standing rule of thumb regarding encountering wild pets, through combat that has unique encounter requirements (like raining on Jaguero Isle for the Baby Ape) just by simply engaging any other critter in the same zone? (which joins the battle as a secondary opponent)
I don't care what the odds are, or if the special conditions are met; just whether or not it's possible.
As in the above example, would it be possible to encounter a Baby Ape, just by battling a Roach or Snake?
(NOT on Jaguero Isle or when it's NOT raining)

No basic rule, no. In your above case, for example, you cannot encounter a Baby Ape outside of its unique spawning conditions. They can only appears on Jaguero Isle when it rains. I don't know if the Ape appears as a secondary pet at all, though, even in those conditions.

Other pets can appear throughout the zone as secondaries. The Snowshoe Hare and Blighthawk demonstrate this behavior. They do boast their own spawns, but can also be encountered as an additional pet in any battle in the zone. Additionally, there are instances where this can bypass a pet's special spawning conditions: Though the Widow Spiderling only spawns at night, it can be encountered as a secondary pet in Duskwood at any time of the day.

There are also numerous instances where a pet can only appear as a secondary within the region that it normally spawns. Several of the zone-unique Outland spawns, such as the Flayer Youngling and the Scalded Basilisk Hatchling function in this manner.

Ultimately, the circumstances around each pet can vary dramatically. If you are seeking a pet in particular and not having much luck, do a little research and return to your task when you better understand how the specific pet functions.

Just FYI: The Flayer Youngling and Scalded Basilisk Hatchling have their own spawns and can be first in a battle, so you can hunt for these directly!

Flayer Youngling: Can be found on the ridge (Razorthorn Rise) in between Hellfire Peninsula and Terokkar Forest alongside Razorthorn Flayers.

Scalded Basilisk Hatchling: Can be found near Scalded Basilisks in the north eastern part of Blade's Edge.

Unfortunately, most quotes seem anecdote-based, rather than facts. Take the Minfernal, for example. I spent over an hour flying around Felwood in circles, I tried slaying everything that moved, nothing.
So it got me wondering if I was better off spending that hour engaging any wild pets (to level my own pets) and seeing if the Minfernal would spawn as a secondary, in the meantime.

Though there have been claims that the Minfernal can spawn as a secondary, this has yet to be conclusively proven. If it occurs at all, the behavior is confined to Shatter Scar Vale. Wild pets attacked anywhere else in the zone will not include a Minfernal.

One fact we know: Minfernals only appear in Shatter Scar Vale. They cannot be encountered anywhere else.

How about Wharf rat? Is there a specific place to encounter these as first pet? And Crimson Moth as well?? Been flying around the cape of stranglethorn, but can't seem to find them. I've noticed that only first encounters counts for the achievement :/ . Or is it a bug? Cause I've caught both of these pets as second one in a battle, but they don't appear in my achievement. (meaning achievement "Eastern Kingdom Safari") .. Anyone knows about this?

It's a bug. These pets are not counting towards the Achievement at all at the moment. It really doesn't matter, though, as the Achievement currently requires the capture of pets that do not appear in the wild. As such it cannot be attained anyway.

Not sure about the Crimson Moth, but Warf Rat spawns can be found in Booty Bay. I don't believe there are very many, though. Or they have a slow repop. Or they're taken out quickly. Or maybe the guards kill them. Or maybe a combination of these factors.

Or something else entirely.
