Fluxfire Power

Post by Iconyx » January 20th, 2013, 9:31 pm

In battling over the past few days, every competitive team I've played against has had this nasty little robot on its roster. No other pet can do 1200+ non-crit non-supereffective damage in one attack (I've been hit for 1300+ using an elemental, which is damage resistant to mechanical abilities). The upcoming nerf to supercharge isn't enough. Anybody else frustrated by this one-shot fest?

Yeah, I hate running across Fluxfire's in PvP, but it's why I started running with a Nordrassil Wisp. Either soak the damage since it only takes half of its HP in one hit, or cause it to miss completely. I also like using Feign Death teams.

I have to say the Fluxfire is amazing! I forget which pet it was but something gave me a 3? round 50% damage buff, so I used Wind up + Supercharge - swapped to the buffer pet and then back again. Hit Nishi's grub for just over 5k NON crit :P

Lethal!

I think the nerf is going to help. Not only with the 150-125% nerf, but you cant stay supercharged for more than one round.

Above all, it's plain annoying, people check for strong pets and see there is a pet that doesn't require brain - 2-3-2 - one pet is dead. Screw fun combos and creativity when you can just 2-3-2. Not to mention it's bugged for quite some time that it prevents mechanical and undead abilities from activating. Of course, there are many ways to counter, but it's extremely annoying seeing Felines and Flayers all day long.

Actually, it's 3-2-2. That way, you get to use the combo against the next enemy pet by doing 2-3-2.
(BTW: I only use this vs certain trainers in the dailies; not in pvp battles ;))

In my opinion, it's part of the game. There'll always be pets that stick out and get more popular.

PvPing with battle pets is all about creating a good team, not only a team of pets that will work well together, but a team of pets that will be good at countering other pets. When one pet sticks out this much, it's only that much easier to anticipate its presence and have something ready to counter it. The fact that he's so popular should only make it easier.

Just add a Lantern to your team (Festival, Lunar or Enchanted), make sure to give it Burn for extra damage vs mechanicals, and Soul Ward to block next attack. It'll be a great addition to your team, and will take care of any FFF you encounter without taking a single point of damage from him.

Or if you can get your hands on one, an Onyx Panther would be great too.
Any pet with dodging/blocking/blinding mechanics could potentially work very well too.

I agree that the fluxfire is overpowered right now and I think that the upcoming changes are going to significantly help as well. With supercharge only lasting one round, the one shot mechanic becomes much easier to counter (with reflect, kick, liftoff, burrow, etc.).

Also, if you are tired of getting blasted by this guy, start running a S/S Silver Dragonhawk. It's a CRAZY fast dragon with flamethrower/conflag that eats the fluxfire for breakfast. It's also fast enough to outspeed basilisks and snowmen to prevent stun lock combos and to negate the flayer's advantage from kick and blitz.

I tried running a darkness team for the first time last night and ended up running into the fluxfire quite a bit. To handle it with that team, I simply popped the pandaren monk's staggered steps and it dropped the damage down to a very manageable 800 or so. Including the darkness induced stun and using staggered steps, my monk took care of the feline in 5 turns with around 400 hp to spare.

Just curious, why would you use a magic pet against a mechanical?

The FFF normally hits once every 3 rounds for a very large ammount of damage (1.5 to 5k).

Magic pets passive ability is that they cannot be hit for more than 40% of their total health in a single hit, hence blocking the FFF hit to 40% of their HP and avoiding getting killed one shot like almost any other pet would be.

The only problem I have with FFF is that it bugs mech's and undead's resurrect racial.... That is a bug, right?

I surely hope so, and that it's fixed in 5.2.

Mumper has said that it is a known bug and that it will be fixed in 5.2.

Besides fixing the bugged out racials, switching super charge to only be effective for one round will do a very nice job balancing the fluxfire out for pvp.

Use magic pets to counter the FFF, they can only take up to 40% of damage in one hit. OR use a pet with reflect and slap that 1800+ hit back in it's robotic little whiskers.

Reflect doesn't reflect the damage, just steals the Wind-up buff

EDIT: Worth pointing out that you don't take the damage, the attack misses you, you steal the wind-up buff, and the FFF keeps the wind-up and supercharge buffs.

And next round it's wtfpwn!
If you are to use reflection, it's better to steal the supercharge buff instead of wind-up (since that one has 3 rounds CD).

Unfortunately you can't steal buffs with reflection now. You can only get the wind-up (or pump) buff due to it's dual-nature as a buff/attack by reflecting the attack.
