Spreadsheet (Previously "Possible")

Post by Uduwudu » July 12th, 2016, 1:44 am

Hi,

(Cleaned up since I got the link, Thanks)
...

I have 750+ pets, and have already gone through it from 15 all the way up (all rare but 6 or 7 I think, though some extras are not rare -- Ex: Spawn of Onyxia), but that's only about half of my pets and the lower levels is where so much crap is.
...

If you use the Rematch addon you can filter your pets for Duplicates. I use this to easily dispatch of pets I dont need :)

and click the Download As Excel link.

I put mine into a big template with formulas for breeds, stat values, movesets, and so on. Wonderful for re-shaping and prioritising your roster!

Hi,

(sorry it wouldn't let me quote with the link)

Thanks a bunch ... found this a few minutes later and immediately started working it. Just finished cleaning it up, and I keep a couple of Spreadsheets. One has the battle pets that need upgrading and what ONLY, thus I know where to use the stones and such ... like gotta have more Elementals, Magic and Humanoid Pets and such ... the usual.

I had been preening the whole thing for a long time, and only had one that had 4 of them, and a couple of bad picks ... like a Red-Tailed Bugger at 22 in White and a same one at 15 in Blue. Duhhhh ... those were the kind of things that I wanted to ensure I was not wasting time on.

My goodness ... more than 66% of my pets were Blue! And I think I leveled 3 this morning and upgraded 2 others ...

I have been doing the leveling in bunches, on my 10 characters (all 100). AND those upgrades are only done on the BLUE battle pets. One of my characters (Uduwudu) does all the Charms, and picks up them, and then gets the level upgrades, and a couple of days ago I had done all the 14's into 15's and now working all the 15's into 16's, and then all of those into 17's and so on. And then the next batch will start all over from 5 or 6. (mainly 1 to 5 is no issue). Thus, everyday, at least 20 levels are added on 20 battle pets, of one each.

When I get them to 22/23, I take them to a spot or two and fight to level, so I can learn the individual abilities.

Essentially, I'm leveling all the blues (not the repeats except on oddball occasions like must have 2 Eternal Striders and the like). And will likely go back and try to pick up some of the others as I get them marked for which zone and then go clean up the area. Just finished doing that on Twilight Highlands (for example) until I got too tired to chase one last one ... used a stone on that upgrade to Rare. Did the same in the Valley of the Four Winds, for example. It was a nice way to level the pets on the upper 20's.

Thanks for the assists and any comments are welcome. Ohh btw, I have 229 pets to level up to 25 with the spreadsheet broken up now, so I can easily tell which one to do next.

May I ask if you are aware of Deebs (Squirt), who is the pet daily every two weeks in the Garrison? Unless time is not an issue people use her to level pets. If I remember correctly it's 4 battles to level a pet from 1 to 21, or was it 19, and even less during the pet battle event - if using both of the pet treats you can buy from the vendor next to her, that is.

Yep ... on my characters took the Clockwork Gnome from 9 all the way to 23 or 24, and I finished him off with a stone.

Normally, most of those dailies are not allowing leveling too much ... like the I had a level 15 in there before and it only got something like 84 XP or equivalent ... but for some reason some different pets get it. Much better XP for the likes of Ashlii where I usually use a level 6 or 7 and while it takes forever, it's still fun to try all the different spells.

You can fight her again even though you've done the daily, and level pets. She's the only one of them who gives any meanningful xp. The dailies in pandaria (except the legendary ones, the Beast of Fable pets) also gives good xp but its only once per day :(
If you have over 200 pets to level up I think it will take a long time the traditional way so any time you can save is nice :) .

Yeah ... I do have 10 characters that do dailies on the Garrison, and that makes for anywhere from 85 to 95 Pet Charms daily, and if I do 4 or 5 of the other dailies, I can piddle up 16 to 20 more Pet charms.

That means I have to make calls as to what to upgrade. IF, the lower level is tough to get, and I do have a poor/common on it, I'll go ahead and use a stone, rather than farm fruitlessly, although this week, is like double the bonus for XP. Only do one or 2 of those daily and the rest is for upgrades, and I have a large wave of about 40 (all blue) at 17, itching to get to 18, and that's where I use the leveling stones. Yeah ... it still takes a while ...

My priority, though is to upgrade/replace the Poor and Common pets (after checking their abilities!!!!!!!) ... I have only 7 Poor and 22 Common at this moment out of 768 Pets. After that it's time to chase the Uncommon at 201. The rest is all blue, as I generally cycle through the mobs (so they level), until a get a blue. Using that time to also level the current pets is a good thing, I have found out. This way I can remain slightly focused and know where I should be to take my Pets up.

Ex: This morning, I went looking for a Snow Cub and Irradiated Roach (Dun Morogh) in blue ... no luck there, but I upgrades something like 20 Level 1 blues all the way to 5 and 6 (bonus was insane!). So I went after a Fledgling Bugger in Redridge and I leveled the same 20 another point until I got my blue Bugger. I'll probably use a stone on the Irradiated Roach, and keep on trying for a Snow Cub, for example, and level off more newbie battle pets.

I try to make it logical and be "progressive", but yeah, it's still a lot of time.

BTW, I took the main spreadsheet from the Search place, cut out all the 25's and then use the rest of the spreadsheet to know which/what to level and go look for. Doing it this way, means that you can see an order, and you can load up a large number of a certain level and move them up, rotating each one as they level. Thus today alone, I already leveled about 25 pets from 1 to 6 (and some 7), and almost all of them, was a single fight because of the bonus.

Re: Possible Spreadsheet Chapter 2

Post by Uduwudu » July 17th, 2016, 9:07 pm

Hi,

On the current picked apart spreadsheet, these are my totals:

120 blues and 99 to upgrade up all the way.

When I get close enough, let's say this list drops to about 100 or less, I will pull a new spreadsheet apart. I just did a complete clean up and dropped 100 duplicates, and this leaves me with 75% Rare of my total number of pets.

This spreadsheet has helped a lot, however, some effort should be made to explain some information and what it is, since it took me about a couple of weeks to figure out the varieties (PS/HS and what not) and no marks anywhere on the spreadsheet as to what those meant. I finally spent some time looking at my pets and the spreadsheet and figured it out, but it took a while, so, I was able to clean up the duplicates (glad I didn't do that before the spreadsheet!), and keep the different versions of the same pet, which helped me find the next set of upgrades after this one is down some more.

Any other suggestions on how to use the spreadsheet would be great.

This week with the Pet Bonus has been great!

I see. When I wanted a blue back in MoP I went and killed all the pets until a blue spawned. Then I levelled them to 10 or so behind Mistfall Village in Vale in Pandaria, on the aqua pets next to the pet healer. Afterwards I levelled them with the dailies but that took a while.

Now I just get the pets regardless of quality, and wait so I can fight Deebs over and over on my druid, until they are level 21-23. Takes 1 hour to level 10 pets from lvl 1. Then buy stones for charms to get them to 25 and a stone to get them blue if needed. I almost never level pets 'in the wild' and if I do I go to a place with 24-25 pets for highest xp. I buy the treats for increased xp and want to get the most out of it.

Since you have about 40 pets at 17ish you could wait for Deebs and level them all to 20+ something in one hour or two, with the xp treats. You only have to fight her 1 maybe 2 times per pet. That's like 400-800 levelling stones pet charms saved by waiting. So you can spend more time looking for blue's and less time levelling.

The chance to find a blue is 5% (but may be lower for some pets, I like to believe, I had a hard time finding a blue Snow Cub). But nobody played on my other realm so I would always find one. It's harder now after they connected so many realms. If you have some gold you could buy stones from others to upgrade pets that can be traded.

| have a template spreadsheet into which I drop the spreadsheet from the invaluable petsear.ch

The template adds formulas and lookups and contains further "static" data.

When I drop the petsear.ch data in, it calculates a longer line with information I found useful.

This will likely be useful only to people who are comfortable with VLOOKUPs and such. It's a working spreadsheet that I change at will rather than a releasable "product". It was the main basis of my work when I shaped my roster by removing inferior pets and collecting the exact ones I wanted. It may provide you with some ideas and data for making your own working spreadsheet.

Disclaimer: People who get headaches when exposed to spreadsheets should not send me their aspirin bills!

Headings for columns Q through AA

Q Breed - will show pet breed in letters
R Cageable - yes or No (or #N/A, mostly :) )
S Health Blue 25
T Power Blue 25
U Speed Blue 25
V NameDupe - for working
W MoveDupe - for working
X IsDesired - is it on a list of desirable pet breeds?
Y LevelKey - for working
Z Have25 - do I have a 25 of this pet?
AA Moveset - Moveset in words

Each cell in columns Q through AA contains a formula. The formulas are copied down from row 2 to all rows used: that is, the formulas are the same in every row. I will paste the formulas for row 2.

Column Q:
=VLOOKUP(F2,$Breeds.$A$2:$B$21,2,0)
or =VLOOKUP(F2,$Breeds.$A:$B,2,0) if you have a problem with that.
This looks up an alpha version of the breed ID in a table in another worksheet within the spreadsheet. The worksheet must be named Breeds and contains the following data:
Breed ID Breed Gender Health Power Speed
3 B/B M 5 5 5
4 P/P M 0 20 0
5 S/S M 0 0 20
6 H/H M 20 0 0
7 H/P M 9 9 0
8 P/S M 0 9 9
9 H/S M 9 0 9
10 P/B M 4 9 4
11 S/B M 4 4 9
12 H/B M 9 4 4
13 B/B F 5 5 5
14 P/P F 0 20 0
15 S/S F 0 0 20
16 H/H F 20 0 0
17 H/P F 9 9 0
18 P/S F 0 9 9
19 H/S F 9 0 9
20 P/B F 4 9 4
21 S/B F 4 4 9
22 H/B F 9 4 4
That alone would solve your display of breeds problem.

Column R:
=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(B2,$Cageables.$A:$A,1,0),"No")
This will display the species ID if the pet is on the Cageables list, and "No" otherwise. This requires a worksheet named Cageables, with somewhat out of date data as follows:

Re: Spreadsheet (Previously "Possible")

Post by Gráinne » July 18th, 2016, 4:33 am

Continuing in another post because of the length of the data tables above.

Column S: the health of this pet as a Blue 25
=(K2+(VLOOKUP(F2,$Breeds.$A$2:H$21,4,0))/10)*5*25*1.3+100

Column T: the power of this pet as a Blue 25
=(L2+(VLOOKUP(F2,$Breeds.$A$2:H$21,5,0))/10)*25*1.3

Column U: the speed of this pet as a level 25
=(M2+(VLOOKUP(F2,$Breeds.$A$2:H$21,6,0))/10)*25*1.3

Those three were so that, when I had some low-level pets, I could immediately see what they were going to grow up to be. For level 25 Blues in your list, these will just contain the same information as columns N,O,P.

Column V: NameDupe
This column is for working. When I sort the list by various things, I can see quickly which pets are the same species as the one above.
=B2=B1

Column W: MoveDupe
This column is for working. When I sort the list by various things, I can see quickly which pets has the same moveset as the one above.
=AA2=AA1

Column X: Is this a desired pet/breed combination
=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(CONCATENATE(B2,Q2),$Desired.A:A,1,0),"No")
which will display the Species and Breed if it is in the Desired list, and "No" otherwise.
This requires you to have A Worksheet named Desired, of pets/breeds you are searching for. I'll omit mine, since i don't claim to be an arbiter of goodness in breeds.
The Desired worksheet consists of a single column containing a concatenation of the SpeciesID and the breed in Alpha, examples:
1013H/S
40P/S

Column Y: LevelKey
=CONCATENATE(B2,G2)

Column Z: Have25.
If there is a number in this column then I have a level-25 of this pet. Again, when I was levelling pets, it was handy to see at a glance whether I already had a 25
=VLOOKUP(CONCATENATE(B2,"25"),Y:Y,1,0)

Column AA: Moveset
This lists the moveset of the pet, in English, like
Immolation/Flamethrower/Volcano/Crush/Scorched Earth/Meteor Strike/
I find this very handy for working, because I can sort pets with the same moveset together, or look up pets with the same moveset, or decide on variant breeds on some of the many, many, many snakes, rabbits, squirrels. There's a long story about that; I'll skip it.
=VLOOKUP(B2,$Species.A:G,7,0)

Unfortunately, to get this column, you have to do some more work. I did some when I first set up this spreadsheet, but haven't done much on it since, so mine is incomplete, missing the 6.2 pets and some others. I'll omit the process and data for that, unless anyone is interested, since there's quite a lot in it.

Goodness me!

Wish I was that advanced. I'm really just a tick and peck user of a spreadsheet, and not that capable with the more advanced stuff, though I probably could get there if I found a good book on it.

My take was to separate the sheets first, with the 25's since there would be no upgrades on it. And for me that made it easy, since I could now make the call on duplicates in that sheet, and remove them as long as they were equals. Made a slight mistake, though, with Eternal Strider, as I did not know about all this before, and come to find out that both of them were 25 and the SAME, and I will get me another one to replace it. ALL my 25's are Rare, regardless, and this is why it is now 500/660 (something like that after pruning duplicates - almost 100!).

I do not, in general, spend time leveling a green, white or Poor at all! There is always an exception here and there, but in general, nope!

The bad thing is that I originally thought, and I think that many of us do as well for the first several hundred pet battles that the Rare/Uncommon/Common/Poor, are not the stats that we should really look at, since we can get a stone to resolve that ... but their type is more important ... a Ninja on this and that and a Speed on this and that ... is much more important, but it makes the choice of pets ... way simpler to level up.

The 2nd Worksheet, is about all the pets I have to level, in order by Level, and since they are already checked I do not have to worry about their abilities at that point, and just worry about levels. I'm not totally sure, but I would say that there are 3 or 4 or 5 pets that I will have to go after again, since the 25 I have is not exactly the preferred style.

Well, you could just add a Breeds column, to see the breed names more easily.

In the spreadsheet, right-click Sheet 2 and Rename it Breeds.

In that Breeds worksheet, copy the table I pasted.

Finally, in column Q, the first one petsear.ch leaves empty, copy the formula
=VLOOKUP(F2,$Breeds.$A:$B,2,0)
into cell Q2 and copy that down.

I feel your mistake about Eternal Strider. I did a similar thing, which was why I introduced the Have25 column.

And now it looks like that the variations on each pet will no longer be important, or Blizzard is hiding it. All pets now just say Rare, Uncommon, Common or Poor and that's it, although the stats still show different.

I have a feeling some more changes are in it for the pet database/spreadsheet on the design level.

I have a feeling some more changes are in it for the pet database/spreadsheet on the design level.
Nah. That'll just be that you haven't updated your addons, or the addons you use aren't updated for the new patch yet.

Nope. Even with Pet Tracker removed, the pets all list only the 4 basics, but their numbers are still different. I presume that the difference has a sub-classification that is not, as yet, responded to, or defined.

That said, some Pet Battles are way out of kilter. Try the one in the Jade Forest. 3 hits and your first 2 pets are done, and the fight closes. AND, somehow, the Quest log states that you completed it, even though the Battle Master did not give you the completed sign (Yellow ?), but the goody-less bag shows up in your inventory ... ohh btw, all you get is a hot dog! Hot diggedy dang! Where's the bun and the ketchup?

My breeds look fine, after updating Rematch and BattlePetBreedID

I'll try Hyuna now. Back in a sec.

Yup, all fine. Got a Flawless Elemental Stone, bandages and 15-40.

Since you have about 40 pets at 17ish you could wait for Deebs and level them all to 20+ something in one hour or two, with the xp treats. You only have to fight her 1 maybe 2 times per pet. That's like 400-800 leveling stones pet charms saved by waiting. So you can spend more time looking for blue's and less time leveling.
...
Will definitely be looking at that! But with the Nerf's and some hits down (Chrominius did not hit 2200!!!!), I think that some of that ability maybe going away ... so yeah ... time to jump asap, after they fix the issues with the daily at the Garrison. Today, only 6 of my characters could do the daily.

I hope they fix that stuff and adjust the prices!

Gave up since this is not an ADDON that can be added to the game, and there are no links for it. Got another one. I don't really need pictures for my smartphone! I like utilities that help the game itself.

Thanks
