Pet of the Month - Fel Pup

Post by Quintessence » July 23rd, 2015, 9:26 am

Many thanks to [profile]Liopleurodon[/profile] for writing the battling portion of our newest feature, [url=http://www.warcraftpets.com/news/fel-pup-pet-of-the-month-july-2015/]Pet of the Month[/url]. Here are some additional points on the [pet]Fel Pup[/pet] that she wanted to share!

How Do You Use Your Fel Pup?
Of course, beyond the cute green puppy of it all, the headline with any pet with [ability]Howl[/ability] is, well, Howl.

The Fel Pup is all about sheer burst DPS, though the Fel Pup also has [ability]Crouch[/ability] to work with. As a result, the PVE applications for the Fel Pup are bright.

The very first place I was excited to try the Fel Pup was in the Taran Zhu fight in the Celestial Tournament. The Howl throughput plus Undead damage meant I was in excellent shape against Humanoids in general. The fact that it can also pack in that Crouch means the typically huge incoming damage isn't a huge threat anymore, either. The Howl bit does take some careful consideration to work out properly because of all the dodges, though. Because of his damage combos the Fel Pup is a great pick whenever you're up against Humanoids.

Crouch has its applications in PVP as well, but adding in an extra family of damage can be a good idea too. [ability]Fel Immolate[/ability] plus Howl makes it a bit of a liability to move a pet with a huge DoT like that to the back row in the current swap-heavy meta. There are other options to make for a better counter with that strategy, but it helps if you'd like your team to be super cute.

There are several swaps you can make if you're just looking for the Howl, the most popular generally being [pet]Chrominius[/pet]. The only other pet where you can use both moves as an option at the same time is the new [pet]Cinder Pup[/pet], which also has a squishable little face but comes from random missions.

The Cinder Pup is also a P/P breed, where the Fel Pup is an S/S. The Cinder Pup packs mostly, oddly, Dragonkin damage, so it's a toss-up based on what you're looking to do. If that speed is what you're after you may want to consider one of the more easily tamed pets like the [pet]Alpine Foxling[/pet], which can also use [ability]Dazzling Dance[/ability] to speed up the rest of your team.

The Fel Pup is an excellent pick if you're looking for brutal DPS, which can be backed up by some defense if necessary. Have you pulled your Pup from the terrors of Tanaan jungle yet?

Fel Pup can solo Netherfist in Tanaan and if you're lucky with the RNG, his whole team. Fel Pup is faster and goes first, so start with Crouch, then Howl, then Diseased Bite until Netherfist is dead.
