Why not provide links to some of a pets other pages, like it's WoWhead page (maybe both the battle-pet capturable NPC and the battle-pet itself, or at least the NPC, that's the intersting part.)

Or just, I guess, links to where they are from, on WoWhead, since that's a great place to track things down on.

Like wow armory game guide on battle.net links to wowhead, and vice versa. A link partnership with wowhead or wowdb, or even some of those you consider competitors. It will generally not cause visitors to leave your site, it will all in all, generate a lot more traffic to your site.

wowhead and wowdb might not be the right sites to make such a partnership with, but some of those sites whose url gets replaced with "competitor" on the forums, might be more appropriate link partners.

All it takes is an email to the developers, if your sites are similar enough, you will both benefit greatly.

We currently have a strong friendship with the folks at Wowhead and we're proud supporters of their site. Many of our tooltip links go to Wowhead. We also provide BB code on our forums and in our user-generated comments that allow all of you to link to achievements, items, npcs, objects, quests and spells on Wowhead. But you have a point about linking to their pet profiles, which feature comments from their communities which could provide some additional benefit. We'll give that some thought.
