Magical Crawdad is my favorite pet at the moment. Why? Because he's close to unkillable.

First off, he has Wish, which heals him for 50% of his health, with a 5 rounds cooldown. On top of that, as if it was not enough, you can cast a heal over time that will heal you about 100 each round.

During Sunny Weather, all pets have 50% extra HP, and this guy already has around 1800 HP at level 25, which is a lot. Give him Sunny Weather, and his Wish now heals him for around 1300 every 3 rounds.

In most PVP battles I do, people simply give up after a few rounds, realizing that they'll never be able to take this guy down.

Note that the Wish ability actually heals your active pet on the next round it is cast, so you can also use that Wish to get a big heal on one of your other pet.

I recommand him highly :)

Thanks for the info ion Magical Crawdad. I never thought about the double bonus it gets from sunny weather, both from higher health and the bonus to healing. I love double dipping :)

Up until now I have mostly used Restless Shadeling + Spider + Onyxian Whelpling. Tail sweeps double hit gives double heal from the buff my shadeling puts up, and my spider can hold his own self healing while the enemy pet kills itself via Brittle Webbing. Up until now I have mostly used the defensive ability my shadeling has, because when I got highest speed, it avoids two attacks, not just one, and I feel that outplays the death coil. But I might change that around if I get myself a sunny weather pet. :)

I've been playing exclusively with the same team almost since I started pet battles (Little Black Ram, Bananas, and Terrible Turnip). I love the huge crits I can get from the ram's Headbutt ability and nothing beats the Terrible Turnip for farming pets. I can spam Weakening and not accidentally kill the pet I'm trying to capture!

Oooh, Plagued Blood ability + a multi-attack ability, did not think of that but it does sound interesting!

I guess it would also work with abilities like Swarm and Moth Balls?

Can someone confirm that applying Plagued Blood ability on the enemy pet and then using another pet to cast Swarm or Moth Balls would actually get you healed several times per round? If so, some roaches just got a lot more interesting, I like Appocalypse, but I've hated all pets who can cast it so far :P
This would definitely make me like them a bit more hehe.
Also moths, being already pretty good, would be pretty awesome combined with the Shadeling (or other pet with Plagued Blood) if it does work that way :D

I'm a HUGE fan of Netherwhelp. With high speed in addition to both Phase Shift and Soulrush, he can set himself up to be incredibly durable.

I saw a small mention in one of the posts about Gregorious Grell. He is by far the best pet i have leveled with his 3 main abilities.
1 punch
2 a DoT for five rounds
3 a heal (+bonus heal of half the last damage taken)

Start dotting you opponent. You will receive the humanoid passive healing bonus for dealing damage per round (4% total health) If you really get a large hit, use your strong heal. and just 'punch that opponent (dragon) in the face'.

Used him for many many easy wins in pvp. Also killed 3 level 23 pets in the world while he was at lvl 16 once.

Biggest strength is his DoT combined with humanoid passive heal.

I can confirm it works with the "Terrible Turnip"s spell called "Sons of the Root". That spell makes 6 duplicate turnips attack the enemy while you hide under ground. It does last for 3 rounds, but you do get healed 6 times(if it hits! ..and be aware, if a turtle blocks it with a shield you won't get heal).

The way Plagued Blood works is that it heals per attack, so if you have aoe attack that hit all the opponents pets, you will only get one heal, not three. However, I just tested with Swarm, and it does heal on every hit. :)

No one mentioned any of the bear cubs. They have hibernate which is an awesome heal. They also have maul which is great already but if the enemy is bleeding it does double. I really like him for a beast.. very powerful

I might regret giving out this info, but a pet that is even harder to kill than Magical Crawdad is Molten Hatchling. Leech Life + Cauterize + Brittle Webbing. I just caught my rare today(breed #15), powerleveled it and just dinged lvl25. I am really looking forward to seeing how it turns out in pvp now, about to try it out :D

Update1: I just took out a Blighthawk, Clockwork Gnome and a Rabbit. I had two pets dead, the enemy pets had 25% hp each left, my Molten Hatchling finished them all off one by one. I like it so far. With Mechanical and undead ress, thats basicly soloing 5 pets at 20-25% hp..

Update2: I won the first 5 battles with my new Molten Hatchling. I give it my stamp of approval. :)

Speaking of best pets, what are your favorite stats to look for? I personally skip on a fast pet, and go for a high damage or high HP pet when farming for rares. I noticed that the cheetah cub is super fast, and only comes in one flavor. This was a big disappointment as I had not paid attention to its stat while leveling it, and only realized how overly fast it was at the cost of health and damage. However, there are several other cats that do have other stat combos, that I will be switching too. RIP cheetah cub, you were fun while you lasted. BTW, devour, a raptor and cat ability, though others have a similar one, is a great move. My only problem with it is against weaker pets and critters, I tend to kill them trying to whittle them down to use the ability, which means I don't get the heal off.

Breanni wrote:So I just stumbled upon the awesomeness that is the Clockwork Gnome as a battle pet. With a strong DoT, solid damage, good HP, a great self-heal and mech rezzing, he's amazing. At level 5, he beat two level 9 snakes (common quality) on his own! He's loads of fun, too.

So I'm curious... what are some other amazing battle pets, both in terms of fun and butt-kicking?
Hey, B! The Clockwork Gnome is absolutely adorable, isn't he? He's always held a special place in my heart, as a companion. He's actually the first pet I chose to battle with and train, so he's my highest level battle pet, as of right now. He's got some awesome moves.

No one mentioned any of the bear cubs.
I overlooked the bears because their hard hitting move benefits from the target bleeding, but they don't have any moves that cause bleeding. The lack of synergy made them seem weak.

But! Maul does 50% extra damage compared to a basic attack even without the target bleeding, and as you say Hibernate is a very strong heal. Darkshore Cub comes in a 325 power flavor, he's the one I leveled up. I'll admit though that fighting Major Payne is what changed my opinion of bears.
Speaking of best pets, what are your favorite stats to look for?
I also prefer power over speed, in general. The exception would be a pet that has abilities that become more effective when going first (e.g. Evanescence and Dodge, because they dodge two attacks when going first; Kick/Backflip, etc.). If the pet has abilities that deal extra damage when going first (such as Alpha Strike/Pounce/Flurry), then I'd value speed slightly higher, but often the bonus damage doesn't actually make up for the power you've sacrificed to get higher speed. In this case, the various abilities deal 20% more damage than a basic attack when going first, which is the equivalent of having 56 extra power. This is roughly the power difference between picking a breedID 4 vs breedID 5, but the bonus power will always deal extra damage, whereas it's pretty common to run into a faster pet even when you've invested heavily in speed.

On the flip side, in a metagame where everyone values power over speed, it becomes easier to go first even with pets of modest speed. This tends to make speed even less attractive. And as you pointed out, when you beat the opponent's speed by a large amount, you've wasted a ton of your stat budget that could have been health or power instead.

For a healing pet, power is unquestionably king. The only time you'd rather have speed or health is if a fight lasted less than 5 turns: but since you have heals, this is incredibly unlikely.

Right now, hands down, is the Strand Crab. He has been my favorite since I got him, he was my first rare (so he has a special place in my heart) and he can't die. His heals and shell make him amazing. He was taking out whole teams of pets up to four levels higher than him and barely feeling it. That said, he's quite slow about killing anything so the battles take forever because I always keep his heal and shell up.

Thanks for all the suggestions about the Magical Crawdad and the Clockwork Gnome :D . As my main is a Gnome, I kind of want to make a Gnome team (yay Christmas Gnomes?!) or a mechanical pet team, so I'm going to work on leveling my sad little (level 1) Clockwork Gnome and take it from there. Might also make a team with crab-like critters by adding my Magical Crawdad to my Strand Crab and Lava Crab (though Lava Crab has got absolutely nothing on the Strand Crab).

Also, did anyone happen to level the Giraffe Calf or the Gazelle Fawn? I'm dying to know how they do. A "safari" themed team might be awesome, just need to find a third for that party--maybe the cheetah cub?! Might give it a shot.

I havn't read back in this thread, so I say this out of context. The 7 croc dwarves Chuck/Toothy/Snarly/Muckbreath/Sneezy/Doopey/Doc have abilities that both cause bleeding and utilizes it. However, they have no heal like the bear cubs, I must admit. But together with the bear cubs, I think they would do awesome. Chuck + Infested Bear Cub = Rip(5R bleed)+Swap+Roar(3R)+Maul+Swap+Blood in the Water ... the only downside is that the bleed is not on the user but the target, so a pet swap would ruin that nice burst.

The best pet that i have played with is the Flayer Youngling! I pair him with Onyxian Whelpling and Magical Crawdad and am nearly unstoppable!

Also, I apologize that this is a little off topic, but all the great favorites here and not one magic pet listed!

Is lil deathwing abit OP?
I just did a pet battle and had 2 full health pets left vs deathwing.
He first took my panda out with a 1100 hit and then my molten hatchling with a 1200 hit :/
Currently running lil raggy, panda, molten hatchling, nordrassil wisp and spirebound crab, very happy with either combo of them.
Might try restless shadeling, raggy and clockwork gnome or dark whelp, panda and ghost skull(when I can make him rare)
