Guide for the celestial tourny (all pets are cageable)

So the goal here is the exact opposite of a budget guide. I have been working on finding a strategy for each tamer that will guarantee a victory with the least possible RNG, and that uses ONLY cageable pets.

Why? Because most of my friends are not too into pet battles. They have only a few lvl 25 pets, barely enough to even enter the tournament, let alone win it. So i made this to help them out in getting their pets.

I will start by listing the team i use against each of the weekly combination of trainers, and at the end the teams i used against the celestial children. Sadly i did not write down which abilities to use on which turn, only which ones to have on the pets. But i will let you guys figure that out, otherwise how much fun would it be? :)
And i will edit it in the future to a more in-depth strategy. So here's the teams i used!
As for the strategy, match each pet with the one it's strong against, and under each pet is what ability to use each turn.
Once the enemy pet dies, keep doing damage with your active pet until it dies, then switch a strong one in, unless stated otherwise below.

Vs. Wise Mari:
Gilnean Raven (1,2,1)
1,2,3,1
Dark Whelpling (1,1,1)
2,1,1
Spineclaw Crab (1,2,2)
1,3,2

Vs. Blingtron:
Snarly(1,1,2)
2,1,3
Direhorn Runt (1,1,2)
2,1,3
Phoenix Hatchling (1,2,2)
2,2,1

Vs. Shademaster Kyrin
Crawling Claw (2,2,1)
1,3,2
Son of Animus (1,1,1)
3,1,2,1,1
Searing Scorchling (1,1,1)
2,3,1

Vs. Lorewalker Cho:
Disgusting Oozeling (1,1,1)
2,3,1,2
Dark Whelpling (1,1,1)
Spam 1.
Anubisath Idol (1,2,1)
Spam 1. Use 3 the turn after the dragon powers up.

Vs. Dr. Goldbloom:
Azure Whelpling(2,1,1)
2,3, Switch Son of Animus in.
Son of Animus (1,1,1)
2,3, spam 1 until Direhorn dies. Then damage Screamer or Chaos until Animus dies.
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling (1,1,1)
3, spam 1. Very strong against Chaos. Should be able to finish Screamer off as well, if not, you still got Azure Whelp.

Vs. Sully:
Mojo (2,1,2)
1,1,2, Spam 1 until he dies. Use heal during the extra turn he gets from undead passive.
Direhorn Runt (1,1,2)
3,1,2,1,2.
Gilnean Raven (1,2,1)
2,3,1,1.

Vs. Taran Zhu:
Crawling Claw (2,2,1)
3,1,2,1
Fossilized Hatchling (2,2,1)
Spam 1. Use 2 on your last round.
Voodoo Figurine (1,2,1)
2, then spam 1.

Vs. Chen Stormstout:
Son of Animus (1,1,1)
2,3,1,2,1
Direhorn Runt (1,1,2)
3,1,2,1,2,3
Snarly(1,1,2)
1,3,2

Vs. Wrathion:
Giant Sewer Rat (1,2,2)
Spam 1. Use 3 when about to die to buy one turn for yourself.
Anubisath Idol (1,2,1)
2. Spam 1. Keep Stoneskin up. Use 3 on the turn Lil' Deathwing uses roll (Will deflect both his breath and the elementium bolt)
Gregarious Grell (1,2,1)*
Spam 1 while keeping yourself alive.

*You should only need one Grell for the whole thing. It won't die from Wrathion and you get to heal him up** before the celestials phase
** You can heal your damaged pets before starting phase 2. Use a pet with an AOE heal such as Terrible Turnip or Stinker (I believe Stinker has the highest heal ability?). Simply start the fight with one of them as your first pet and other 2 damaged pets. Yu'la and Chi-chi never start with an attack move. So you get to heal then forfeit as much as needed.

Phase 2: The celestial children

-Vs. Zao: Sunreaver Micro-Sentry (2,1,1); Clockwork Gnome (1,1,1); Zandalari Anklerender (2,1,2)
Start with Sentry: Use Extra plating, then Immolate, Call Lightning.
Switch to Clockwork Gnome: Build Turret. Spam Metal Fist until you can Turret again. Keep that until you die.
Back to Sentry: Call Lightning. Immolate. If you die,
Zandalari Anklerender: Use Black Claw to power up whatever Turrets and Immolate you still have up. Finish him off with Hunting Party.

-Vs. Xu-fu: Tranquil Mechanical Yeti (1,1,2); Darkmoon Tonk (1,1,2); Zandalari Kneebiter (2,2,2)
Start with Yeti: Metal Fist, Call Lightning, Ion Cannon. When it dies, use
Darkmoon Tonk: Shock and Awe, Missile, Ion Cannon. If Xu-fu is still alive and so is tonk, spam Missile until you die.
If needed, finish him off with Zandalari Kneebiter using Black Claw and Hunting Party.

-Vs. Yu'la: Gregarious Grell (1,2,1); Peddlefeet (1,2,2)
Barring some RNG, the Grell can solo this one. Spam Punch. If she flies up, Phase Shift will let you avoid the attack as well as her next breath. Cauterize to heal yourself up after the 2nd Breath hits (or first if it's a crit), then Cauterize on cooldown while still using Phase Shift to avoid the flight attack.
In case the Grell dies, Peddlefeet's Perfumed Arrow is priority. Bow Shot and heal yourself as needed with Love Potion until you win.

-Vs. Chi-chi: Pandaren Water Spirit (1,2,2); Chromminus (1,1,2)
Start with Water Spirit: Geyser, Whirlpool.
Switch to Chromminus: Howl. At this point the turn ends and Chi-chi takes double damage from both the elemental's abilities and gets stunned. Finish him off with Surge of Power.

Congrats! You just won the Celestial Tournament! I will add more in-depth strategies to the phase 1 tamers as i repeat and perfect them. Hope you guys find this guide useful. :)

This isn't sadly water-proof unless you can finish the cat with the mechs.

Shock and Awe landed stun and Xu-Fu even missed one attack on Raptor but yet he tear this team apart. Raptor got Claw+Party off but as Xu-Fu had healed to 600ish from killing the tonk, this wasn't enough to kill him.

Nice guide otherwise tho! :)

Thanks for the feedback! Just switched the guide around so you do Missile before Ion Cannon and didn't even need to use the raptor, though he didn't use his heal so i might have been lucky. I will keep trying to reproduce a bad RNG situation and adapt to it. :)

Zao's a bit too complicated.

I use Sunreaver:
Plating, Fel immolate, Call Lightning (dies), Fel Immolate if he didn't die, (definitely dies)
Zandalari Kneebiter
Black Claw, Hunting Party (dies)
Zandalari Anklerender
If Black Claw/Call Lightning/Shattered Defenses are still up [Skip black claw]
[Black Claw], Hunting Party

Zao Dies every time to this because the Zandalari's are faster than he is meaning the last hunting party will go first and they're 100% hit abilities.

Xu-Fu
Darkmoon Zepplin (missile, explode, decoy)
1. Decoy
2. Missile until the round before you die.
3. Explode (he's left on about 900-1000 health after this)

Menagerie Custodian (zap, shock and awe, ion cannon)
4. Zap (100% hit chance)
5. If he's on <500 health, Ion Cannon, else Zap
6. Ion Cannon or Zap.

Never use a 3rd but have my Darkmoon Tonk in backup with Ion Cannon.

Chi-ji

Your explanation is a bit wrong. For me he always uses his Dodge ability on round 3 (which by your explanation is when geyser/whirlpool will go off).

Pandaren Water Spirit:
1. Water Jet
2. Geyser
3. Whirlpool
4. Switch to Chrominius
5. Howl (geyser, whirlpool, Stunned)
6. Surge of Power
7. Switch to Any other pet with Surge of Power.
8. Surge of Power.

All Pets survive the fight - "Healed" them and reused them on Yu'la skipping step 1. and trading in Pet 3 for any 100% hit chance strong vs Dragonkin ability.

I like your strats for Xu-fu better, mind if i steal it?
I also tried the other suggestions:
For Zao i had some trouble, being that my Sunreaver Sentry was not dying as fast as you said he should, so the storm was actually over by the time he did die.
Also Chi-ji's dodge will fade just before Geyser and Whirlpool hit.

Sure, use away.

Sometimes you can get (un)lucky using that tactic with Zao, but typically you're also safe doing Fel Immolate, Call Lightning, switch (because sunreaver soaks up the charge).

I was unlucky with this last night (not really paying attention) and ended up wiping this team and had to pull out a backup team from random pets (which worked surprisingly well).
- S/S Skywisp Moth with counterspell and call lightning
- Grotto Vole with Sting and Stampede.
- Wild Gryphon hatchling with flock.

Skywisp I used counterspell to interrupt Zao's round 1. Call Lightning and switched to vole. Did Sting (dot attack) and then stampede (vole got 2 stampedes off then died). Put Moth back in and counterspelled Zao's attempt to use Wish and then Call Lightning and he died. Didn't even use the gryphon
I tried doing geyser, whirlpool straight off with Chi-ji and she dodged them both on round 3 for me! Odd!

Edit: Just did Zao with the original team but used this order:
1. Fel Immolate
2. Call Lightning (charge just about kills you)
3. Switch to either Zandalari.
4. Black Claw
5. Hunting Party
6. Hunting Party (round 2) Zao dies.

Great post.

However against lorewalker cho i prefer to use the scourged whelpling instead of the dark whelpling, seems way less rng since you'll always get a shadowflame or two more off since it's undead

I like the scourged whelping as well, but the purpose of this guide was to make it work with 100% cageable-only pets. So i have to make do with that limit! :p
