Unborn Val - is this a glitch?

Okay. So, I understand with 5.4 that the unborn Val cannot come back after you sacrifice her life for the dmg buff, and this has been my experience except for ...

I was doing the fable dailies and was on Kafi or Kafu (whatever), the goat one, and I was just beating it down before I killed Val. I thought I was about to die anyway so I picked the buff for the next round. Only, the goat went first and klled Val before she cast it. No prob, right? She came back and cast it and died again only to ...

Come back for the next round. I managed to get another hit off before she died for good.

Is this a glitch or is this something we can use in the future (ie, Bliz won't take it away on the next hot fix.)

Interesting. Have you tried getting her killed more times to be sure it wasn't just a one time bug?

I'm pretty sure what's going on is this:

the patch changed Unholy Ascension so that it doesn't trigger the UD passive when it kills your pet. But Unholy Ascension does not actually *remove* the UD passive if it's up already. So if you get killed by something else, then the UD passive will trigger, you will get the buff, and when Unholy Ascension tries to kill you later in the turn, you're immortal from the UD buff.

My guess is that this isn't intended, and the logical fix is to have Unholy Ascension check for the UD buff and remove it if it's present. But it's an open question whether they'll bother.

Yeah, this is exactly what's happening. Tried it today on Dos Ryga and Kafi and you can still use the old strategy, it just takes a wee bit longer and you have to guess the turn that your Val'kyr is going to die.

There is another one with the Valk: it seems you can't kill it anymore by accidently killing the haunted pet - now the Valk comes back even if Haunt was still ticking. Realized it while fighting the 3-monk-team.

Sorry it took a bit to reply. I wrote the topic before I went to bed but I've been testing it on the dailies I'm doing right now and it seems to work.

It does actually work. At least, it works on every fabled beastie I've been against today. I was wrong in one part: she doesn't actually die after casting the buff. The log says it 'misses' her (not when applying the debuff to the fabled pet I'm battling, just the death part.) I had some screenies taken but flickr is down at the moment.

The fabled beasts hit hard enough that it only takes a round or two more than before, and you can't be sleepwalking while doing it, but it works. I think you have to have it selected before she dies so that she get's the extra round and it's not fools proof like it was before, but still!
