I finally completed the whole thing :) I got the master achievement too at the same time so I must have done something right ;)
Thank you so much to all who offered advice and support and after 3 weeks I got my little cub. I must say I am a little fed up with pet battling now, much to the delight of my guild as I can finally gear up enough to continue raiding!

Grell has been a marvel for the dragon and the cinder kitten is great for lil Bling. Im looking for another valkyr for the monks as she is amazing. I really dont like the RNG involved in this tournament as is seems extremely random (if you understand what I mean!) but I suppose it is supposed to be hard

It's fun that the new pets are relevant for the celestial tourney and pvp but I have 2 gripes

1} I was relatively lucky but i found the unborn Valkyr to be silly difficult to chase after in all those zones
the pet is worth it but that was a headache
2} Too many 'stall' type pets in the pvp game now - I'm thrilled I got the 1000W before the patch and new pets because pvp looks like it takes an eternity to do now

5000 pvp wins will take me a zillion years to achieve - i plan to get 10 W per week for the pet xp buff thingy

Tharan Zu, Wrathion and Chen again on US. Used the same strats I've used before, was too lazy to think of something else. I wish we could do the Tournament even after we win the weekly, I wouldn't even mind in just batling for fun and getting no prizes.

Tharan Zu team failed once (killed him on my undead turn and he gets the win because fuck logic). Easy fights nevertheless, a crit on Chi-Chi actually made my Tarecgosa basically solo her. And a crit from Xu-Fu on my wolf AND my tonk (critical Feed here ¬¬) almost made me lose on the last one. Damn RNG man :[

I guess they fixed what I had heard about with getting an extra coin by coming on after the daily reset but before servers went down, because I came on after 6am (on EST) and I could accept the quest and it was the same group as last week - but when I came back after servers went up the quest wasn't available. Sort of a bummer, but I suppose I'm not in a hurry - I'm really uninterested in pet battle pvp. I don't think I'm good enough of a pet battler for it, and don't think I have the patience.

Just a note about xu fu and zao
3 weeks in a row now Iwas able to beat both these beasts with a total of 3. Pets...

Start on zao with unborn valk ..do c.o.doom then haunt... Go to Lil going, do inflation..spam it and zao dies

Use the exact same approach with weakened unborn valkyr and weak bling and a warbot or anything good vs beast and you will beat xufu ...all with just 3 pets

Changed a little my strats on week 3:
Blingtron 4000
- Snarly (1/1/2)
- Electrified Razortooth (2/1/1)
- Core Hound Pup (2/1/2)

Au --> Start with Snarly > Rip > Blood in the Water > Surge > Surge again (if needed)
Banks --> Snarly still alive > Rip > Surge > Surge > Swap to Core Hound Pup
Howl > Trash > Trash (It'll hit for 500+ each hit, so one may be enough)
Lil'B --> Burrow > Howl > Trash until you die (refresh Howl if you have the chance)
Swap to Razortooth > Paralyzing Jolt > Jolt

Side note: Mind you, this team works like a charm, problem is: RNG hates me and, if you miss Paralyzing Jolt on the first turn (Howl should be up), YOU'LL have LOTS of trouble killing the last pet, that's why I created this new team [I lost and didn't want to reset the tournament]
--------------------------------------------------------
Blingtron 4000
- Eternal Strider (1/2/2)
- Pygmy Direhorn (1/1/2) [Direhorn Runt can be used here, but I wanted to use my recent acquired pet :D]
- Jademist Dancer (1/2/2) [Then again, you have OPTIONS here, because your Direhorn should kill Banks and be full/almost full, so since Blingtron doesn't have an effective heal, you can bring any Elemental pet with strong attacks]

Au --> Pump > Cleasing Rain > Pump > Water Jet [He should be dead]
Banks --> Water Jet (You'll die) > Swap to Direhorn > Trihorn Shield > Horn Attack > Trihorn Charge until you kill it. Refresh Trihorn shield when possible.
Lil'b --> Refresh Trihorn Shield > Trihorn Charge/Horn Attack until you die > Jademist > Geyser > Rain Dance > Steam Vent > Steam Vent. Repeat until you die (you should always be full :D)

Shademaster Kiryn

- Lesser Voidcaller (1/1/2)
- Pandaren Fire Spirit (2/1/2)
- Lil' Bling (2/1/1) [Stoned]

Nairn --> Shadow Shock > Drain Power > Shadow Shock until it dies
Stormoen --> (If Voidcaller is alive, Drain Power > Shadow Shock) > Pandaren Fire Spirit > Immolate > Conflagrate > Magma Wave (it'll clear the turrets, so you can use it earlier than Conflagrate or even Immolate). He should be dead by now, if not, keep Magma Waving.
Summer --> (If Spirit is alive, Immolate > Conflagrate) > Lil' Bling > Make it Rain (if Dodge is not up) > Blingtron Gift Package (If Dodge IS up) > Make it Rain > Inflation.

Side note: On Summer, you should be able to put a Immolate up on him and maybe even a Conflagrate, if you do that, Inflation Def- is much stronger than SMACKTHAT.EXE hit.

Wise Mari
- Yellow Moth (1/1/1)
- Dark Whelpling (2/1/1)
- White Carp (2/2/1)

Carpe Diem --> Moth Balls > Cocoon Strike > Moth Balls > Slicing Wind
Spirus --> Moth Balls > Cocoon Strike > Moth Balls > Slicing Wind until you die > Swap to Dark Whelpling > Tail Sweep > Tail Sweep (if he's still alive, kill it with Roar)
River --> Tail Sweep > Lift Off > Tail Sweep until you die > White Carp > Surge until you kill it, Heal if you're under 700.

Comment: This team is a RNG HEAVY team, and you may have problems if Moth Balls and Slicing Wind don't hit 2~3 times [I had a match today that is was hitting ONE TIME for 6 straight turns. Not fun at all.], since the other two teams are not RNG heavy, I recommend you doing Wise Mari first if you're using this team. A different team would be:

- Brilliant Kaliri (2/1/2)
- Infinite Whelpling (1/1/1)
- White Carp (2/2/1)

Carpe Diem --> Shriek > Quills until he's under 739 > Predatory Strike
Spirus --> Shriek > Quills whilst you have more speed > Predatory Strike when you don't > Refresh Shriek before dying > Swap to Infinite Whelpling > Healing Flame > Tail Sweep until you kill it.
River --> Early Advantage > Healing Flame > Tail Sweep until you die > Swap to White Carp > Healing Wave > Dive > Surge until you kill it.

Comment: This team mitigates the RNG factor and you usually have a 90% Dragon up against Spirus, because the Breath would do around 80 damage per hit, you may also use a Raven [Which I don't use because I need mine full against Chi Chi, so I'll level my Darkmoon Raven for it, and then use Call Darkness to mitigate Dread Breath extra damage (by changing the weather), and kill it quickly and easily with Nocturnal Strike and Alpha Strike)]

I tried this on Tuesday after the reset, and found Kiryn to be almost impossible to beat o0

Used the same team as last week that literally stomped him, but this week Nairn seemed to do massive back-row damage to the point that once my lead pet died, the 2 back rows were both on less than 50% hp, then his other pets stomped me into the floor. I reset over and over for well over 4 hours, then finally gave up and left it till Wednesday to get a new team, which was as easy to beat as always :(

Anyone else noticing Nairn being on Roids, or was I just _reaaaaaallllly_ unlucky?

You didn't kill Nairn fast enough. Call of Winter does more damage if pets are already chilled so if you let him get a second call of winter off while the weather effect from the first one is still up you're going to take a bunch of damage.

I keep Nairn on the back row until he is the only one left by using DM Monkey against him. DM Monkey is faster, so I clobber/stun him, then swap (the AI always swaps a stunned pet), Pandaren Fire Spirit kills Stormaen, swap to DM Monkey for the stun on Nairn again, then swap to DM Zep to take out Summer, then last of all DM Monkey comes back and deals with Nairn. So far that strategy with that trio of pets has never lost for me.

I actually did really well against them leading off with a [S/S] Death Adder Hatchling. His blinding poison was able to negate the stun and a lot of the damage, and the regular poison attack helps do some more damage after the first guy feigns. I can usually kill or near kill the first two monks with just the adder. It did take me a few attempts to get a good rotation to make sure blinding poison hit at the right spots, but worked out well overall. I followed up with a stitched pup. I was also able to get a carry pet in for experience. It isn't as much as a normal trainer (1200-1600ish for level 20-24 pets with the hat), but since it was repeatable, it was really fast for me to go in, do TZ's team, reset the tourny and repeat. I leveled a few pets to 25 that way.

EDIT: Also, the Death Adder Hatchling [S/S] is good against Nairn. The rotation for him is:
1. Poison Fang (Nairn uses his buff)
2. Blinding Poison (Nairn's AoE misses everyone)
3. Puncture Wound (Nairn's Attack Misses)
4. Poison Fang (Nairn finally gets in a single target hit)

Repeat 1-4 till he dies. Nairn only gets one attack through per cycle. The Death Adder should have 200+ health left and is faster than the mech cat. I cast poison on the mech cat and then die. Since poison fang does elemental ticking damage, it is quite nice to end with.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but there's a way to heal your pets if you need to during the tournament.
Bring pets with team heal abilities ([pet]Winter Reindeer[/pet], [pet]Terrible Turnip[/pet], [pet]Singing Sunflower[/pet]).

Cast the heal then forfeit the match.

Works best if you leave Yu'la up since it doesn't attack on the first turn. Otherwise you can rotate which pet you use to heal and keep them all topped up.

I use this sometimes when RNG goes bad for me on my normal set ups. It saves me having to go farm a bunch of duplicates.

I haven't seen this mentioned so I thought I'd share it. Zoa is the same speed as P/P raptors which leads to an interesting situation and a key for making the fight easy. When two pets have the same speed one is randomly chosen to go first then they alternate. If you are using a P/P raptor you want to make sure you go first on the first round. If you don't cancel and try again. Zao uses his Charge so you take no damage the first round and can do this as many times as needed. Your raptor going first leads to the following.

Round 1
You black claw/Infected wounds he does first round of charge.

Round 2
Charge hits you and puts you in beast racial and then you hunting party him.

Round 3
You hit him again with hunting party with both debuffs up dealing a fair bit of damage and then he attacks you and kills you. More importantly you attack so leave the debuff up for the next round.

Round 4
Assuming you bring in another P/P raptor he'll go first and cast wish. You hunting party again.

Round 5
You go first and hunting party finishes him before he can deal any dmg to your raptor or wish can go off.

You could probably replace the second raptor with any decent mechanical unit as he's below half and you have two rounds to finish him. Shock and Awe and Ion Cannon should be plenty especially with the debuffs up. I go with three p/p raptors because it's my critter killing team I already have setup and it provides a buffer if he happens to get lucky and crits on his Charge.

Zao and Chi-chi work too. Zao casts charge and Chi-Chi leads with Tranquility. Xu-Fu is the only one that opens with an ability that deals dmg but even then you could use him if need you'd just end up loosing your healing pet after 2 or 3 heals.

I wanted to save as many of those for the underbosses as possible. I ended up with two Daylight/Explode teams and two teams based around Pandaren Water Spirits and Howl.

Zao, Calfling ofNiuzao
4 rounds
1: Echanted, Festival or Lunar Lantern
2: H/H Minfernal or H/H Netherspace Abyssal
3: H/H Minfernal or H/H Netherspace Abyssal

Full post truncated for ease of reading.

I can verify Stencil's teams for the 4 Celestial Legendaries. They work like a charm and are very reliable.

So reliable, in fact, I now use the Zao 'explode' team with 2 H/H Abyssals against all the other legendary pets. No-No and Ka’wi the Gorger are the only ones that can take more than 4 rounds to defeat. Against No-No, you have to time your explodes for when the dam and dive are on cooldown. For Ka'wi, you need to restart if the lantern gets goo'ed. I could easily use a different time for those two, but the convenience of always being able to use the same team combined with winning in 4 rounds more than 90% of the time makes it worth the risk against those two pets.

US servers have the loremaster cho fight this week
I used living fluid to replace the ooze since i like to use the disgusting ooze for the elite bird fight

My unborn valk/lil bling strat beat the elite bull this week but rng had the unborn valk die so vs XuFu, I used the
s/s cogblade raptor,CWGnome combo with the 3rd pet i listed in the OP and it worked out fine

this tourney has been easier than i thought it would be overall..thanks for all contributions and creative ideas to this thread
I know it's long to sift and read through but as I wrote in the OP ... hope it has helped someone with levelling fewer pets to finish the tourney

I've never posted on here before, but, I've written a very detailed guide for my guild, and I just wanted to share with everyone here as well, LOL.

Undercard 3 Guide:

Wise Mari

Crow (S/S) (1/1/2)- you need to hold off on darkness until after the first turn- so peck, then darkness, then nocturnal strike, then peck hi to death
Emerald Proto Whelp (1/1/1)- easy peasy. breathe breathe. and heal AFTER darkness is gone. Will eat the magic pet Save liftoff for the 3rd pet because he lives long enough- save it for the pool or the dive if he's still alive
Tiny White Carp (1/1/1)- Save dive for the pool:)

Blingtron
Eternal Strider (5)- (Water Jet/Cleansing Rain/Pump)- Pump once, Cleansing rain, Pump again. Then water jet him off. Then you should be able to get one hit on banks
Kneebiter (4 or 5)- (Black Claw and Hunting Party)- In that order. Dead piggy
Lil Rag (1, 1, 2)- Use sons of flame on that turn after bling revives. But if you magma trap, the stun is fab early on:)

Shademaster Kiryn

Harbringer of Flame (2,2,2) - Use immolate, then conflagration, then burn. burn burn burn. You need 800 health left at the end to survive the 2nd pet's storm. Then do the same thing to stormeon
Crow or Raven (P/S) (1, 2, 2)- change the weather (that'd be the darkness)- then nocturnal strike (if it's the dodge pet, make sure dodge isn't up- if it is, peck). This pet literally exists to change the weather and eat the turrets
Sunreaver Microsentry (1,1,1)- if dodge isn't up- call lightning. If it is, beam. Once you call lightning, beam until he's dead

Xu- Fu

Unborn Valk (1,2,2)
Pandaren Water Spirit (1,2,2)
Chrominius (1,1,2)

So, throw up doom, hit one until the extra turn because your valk is dead. Then unholy. Then flip to the water spirit. Geyser. Whirlpool. Then Chrominius. Then Howl. Then Surge of Power.

Yu'La

Flayer Youngling (5 or s/s) (Interrupt, deflection, and the double rake)
Flayer Youngling (5) *Note- I have used...any number of humans here. Anub Idol. Monk. And on and on. It all depends on who is in the undercard. If you need any advice, feel free to mail me. I have full dragon teams for this annoying person. LOL.
Peddlefeet (stun, 2 turn arrow, and 1 turn nuke arrow single target)

So. double rake on the first turn. Interrupt on cooldown. hit deflection when you're about to get hit with wind. Do that for both your flayers. peddlefeet- stun him. double turn arrow when he's in the air. Single turn arrow elsewise.

Zao

Alpine Foxling (b,b or 3) (1,2,2)
Crystal Spiderling (bb or 3) (2,2,2)
Jumping Spider (bb or 3) (2, 2, 2)

Dazzling dance. Then bite. Then howl. Then flip to cystal spider. Then brittle web. Then spider swarm. Then crystal stun. Then swap to jumping spider. Then brittle web. Then spider swarm. Dead.

Chi-Chi

Unborn Valk (1, 2, 2)
Nexus Whelpling (1,2,2)
Nordrassil Wisp (1,1,1)

Hit doom. Hit 1 until the extra turn because your valk is dead. Then unholy ascension. Then Nexus Whelpling. Then arcane winds. Then if the dodge is up, hit 1. If it's not, hit the Mana surge (boom damage). Then if she's still alive, wisp can kill with one hit of magic

Dr Ion

Emerald Whelpling (2,1,1)
Son of Animus (1,1,1) (or any strong mechanical)
Emerald Proto Whelp (4) (1,1,1)

For the emerald whelp, open with tranquility, and just keep breathing on him. For animus, keep plating on, and just attack heal on cooldown (I waited one turn to do it). He hits like a truck, so you'll destroy things. Then just keep the heal on and you'll win.

Sully

Spirebound Crab (1,1,2)
Kun Lai Runt (8 or a 4) (1,1,1)
Gilnean Raven (1,2,2) (or pterrordax, or any strong flyer here)

Open with Tranquility with the crab. Then throw down the whirlpool. Then just snapping bite. Boom boom. The runt- put on the debuff and ravage to your heart's content. Then, it's time to just eat an aquatic, like you have done a million times.

Cho

Spawn of Onyxia (2, 1,1)
Flayer Youngling (5) (1,2,1) (any human of choice)
Scourged Whelpling (8) (2,1,1)

Just tail whip and heal as you go for the spawn. The flayer has the great interrupt and the fabulous deflection that you use when the 2nd pet goes to use big attacks. Then the scourged whelpling should be up to throw up darkness to cut the healing. Throw up plagued blood so you heal yourself and tail whip him to death. Win.

Re: Celestial Tournament 101 [US and EU tips]

by Cyzzle
Undercard 2

Taran Zhu

Maggot (6) (2,2,2)
Crow (5 or 7) (Nocturnal strike and darkness)
Blighthawk (8) (1,2,1)

This is the most rng of the 3, so I always do him first. Open with the goo to keep him rooted. Then burrow. Then I go for my heal. then just keep him gooed so he doesn't swap out on cooldown. For the 2nd pet, as long as you keep darkness up to cut the healing, you win. Peck him to death when nocturnal strike is on cooldown. I normally can use the crow to almost solo the last 2. The blighthawk- just remember that the middle ability DOES STUN YOU for a round.

Wrathion

Tolhi Hare (Or any fast hopping bunny. I normally use my darkmoon rabbit, but hey, the hare is JUST as good) (1,2,1)
Flayer Youngling (5)(1,2,1)
Flayer Youngling (8)(1,2,1) (I actually don't use this 2nd pet- but honestly- you could put ANYTHING here)

The trick to this fight is to make sure you dodge the air attacks and anything coming up. So use the bunny's dodge (watch those debuffs). Your bunny will kill his first pet easy. And whittle down the middle one. Just keep banging the first key for you:) I used dodge for the debuffs and didn't burrow much. Then the flayer- same concept. Deflection is beautiful. And as long as you go first, you destroy him.

Chen

Lil Bling (any mechanical works here) (1,1,1)
Kun Lai Runt (8)(don't switch in until he chirps)(1,1,1)
Eternal Strider (1,2,2)(8)

For bling. Open with make it rain. Then throw your package. Mine has a tendency to miss, but hey, if it hits, win;p Then smack it if you need- if not, make it rain again, He's normally got his first pet dead by this point. Let the thing chirp, then bring in your runt and RAMPAGE ONLY. Dead 2nd pet. Then throw up the debuff on Brewly (what an annoying pet). Then do a little damage and bring in your strider. Pump. Rain. Pump. Dead. If you miss, you can Pump x 2 again. Dead pet, win!
