Humanoid/undead counters

Postby Tekulve2012 » September 7th, 2014, 7:22 pm

I see so many pet PvP teams with the Valk, Foss hatch or humanoids .. Anub and a smattering of others

Ive had luck with some pet teams and some solo heroes(emporer crab, jademist dancer, imperial eagle chick) but im wondering if anyone uses a specific comp to counter these guys

I know the foxes do well..im looking at the h/h tiny sporebat vs humanoids too ..could be great esp in moonlight

Would love to hear of foss hatch beaters in particular, hes a pet you want dead quickly to avoid any 2nd bonestorm

Well Giant Sewer Rat eats undead for breakfast, just poison fang + stampede is enough to kill most undead pets, 325 power makes just his basic Scratch to hit like a truck on undead too.

Don't think I have ever gotten the Tiny Sporebat do work well. While Creeping Fungus actually will deal decent damage even through a sandstorm if you plan on taking out Idols you have to prepare for weather change mindgames. Also if you run into a crab that sporebat is screwed.

Like you said Foxes/Wolves will kill the Fossilized Hatchling really quick, especially if they waste a turn healing. Sadly the foxes/wolves are not ideal to take out idols, or any humanoid.

I like the P/P Baby Ape. It will hit hard enough to take out a non-demolishing Idol with no problem. Good use of Clobber and you should have even less problems. It can also handle Fossilized hatchlings ok, not as good as foxes, and once again Clobber can keep them from healing or with luck keep them from putting their undead racial to much use.(ideal is to stun and be lucky that the banana barrage dot will kill them, then they will lose two turns). Baby ape can also take out troublesome crabs and crawdads.

As I have said before Mr. Wiggles eats Idols for breakfast and doubles as Raggy protection as well.

The main problem is that is hard to cover all your bases. Strong attacks vs fossilized hatchling will do weak damage against Idols. I guess that's why I like the Baby Ape, it will hit really hard regardless, especially with beas racial up, and can even take out birds from time to time.

i hadnt run the sporebat with the crab before Vek .. I wanted to try it with a senjin fetish for amped up power .. i just see the h/h breed's 1880+ hp as a nice tank that should keep the flying racial a while and hurt an idol with 2 atks to hurt it.. it has creeping fungus (which is buffed in moonlight - the combo i want to try) and then it has shadow slash which should do ok dmg even at 244 pwr due to strong vs hum.

I havent tried it out yet, but idols are all over my meta atm along with an undead barrage (though i very rarely see the grizzly or blighted squirrels or spirit crabs that discodoggy loves so much)

For kicks, I ran mr wiggles on a murkalot team with the veng. porc ..undead and hum. beware .. i dont have the heart to play the murkalot combos much unless its an original mix to flash pets that pvpers dont see much
-----

I too have posted threads here to promote the p/p baby ape ..it is a pain to get though... i had many a dry hour on Jag. isle awaiting the rain

One of my favourite undead stompers is a P/P zandalari toenibbler with flank/primal cry/black claw.

A lot of undead are slow, so you don't need to use PC to get faster. You can either flank/flank to kill a fossilized hatchling before it can heal, or you can use primal cry to slow back pets while the valk haunts you.

Bonestorm Hatchlings are difficult to counter somewhat, due to the likelihood that they will get Bonestorm off at least twice in a fight, thx to the Heal and undead racial. One round stuns work well for the undead racial round, and Sandstorm actually works pretty well at soaking some of the dmg from all three of your pets. I would say that a Silithid Hatchling running with Scratch and Sandstorm would be the likely best overall counter to the F. Hatchling. A DAH that uses BP on the round that BS is likely to be used is also effective, unless juked.

As to the Idol, he is a bit trickier in that he is good against practically everything, and is even decent vs. undead because of his high health, defensive abilities, and big dmg output. In all honesty, Creeping Fungus teams won't work too well against an Idol team because he will just switch the weather on you, and SS will take most of the dmg from an unbuffed CF. CF is further compounded by the fact that no pet who can cast it comes equipped with Moonlight, meaning at least one switch, maybe even two. If memory serves, Moonlight only adds 40 dmg per tick, equaling 160 dmg over the course of the four round DoT, which is not worth the lost turn for the switch IMO unless it gets applied on at least two pets for it's duration. I run a few Moonlight teams, and CF becomes more viable if you have another pet that can also take advantage of the weather, such as Xu-Fu.

For Idol killing purposes, I have a few pets that I prefer, even though they don't seem ideal. The first is the Warbot. He can generally go toe-to-toe with the Idol thx to Extra-Plating, and has the added perk of putting down a Minefield to score a big hit on the next incoming pet, which will mean that the Idol player will usually leave him in front in hopes of out-waiting the MF. While the Warbot will miss a few shots due to low accuracy with SS running, he hits hard enough to normally either kill the Idol, or seriously hurt him making him easy pickings for the next pet of yours. As stated before, Mr. Wiggles also works well, though he generally takes two rounds to buff up to be effective (Crouch and Uncanny Luck, then attacking). I also really like using the P/P Twilight Fiendling to put the hurt on Idols. Adrenals Glands coupled with Creepy Chomp will destroy an Idol quickly, thx to the crit buff. Blighthawks are also very effective at killing Humanoids, with big dmg potential.

Now, if you just want one pet that can counter both Undead and Humanoids, that is a much trickier proposition. I would say that my favorite to handle both would probably be the rarely-seen Stone Armadillo, Running with Scratch/Shell Shield/Infected Claw, he can do big dmg to both pet types. SS is good for soaking Haunts, and makes him very durable vs. Sandstorm pets as he will then have two mitigation shields going. I have the H/P version, but in the case of F. Hatchling warfare, I would say that the H/S version may serve you better, but that is debatable. I mostly use him against valk spam, so the speed isn't as much an issue and I like the bigger hits. The SA has another added benefit as well; being a critter, he is great vs. Lil' Rag and the QG! No stuns from the trap or the kick. Watch out for DAH's though, he will get wrecked by them in no-time.

Thanks for the feedback folks !

I tried the sporebat on a few PvP runs.. All that HP can soak up DMG and allow for your other pets cooldowns to tick..just a bonus that its flying and hurts humanoids imo...the only issue being the popularity of aoe teams ..hsrd to get away with too much switching

I use the warbot on bleed teams but misses hurt a lot and there are gradually more 'cleanser'pets (voodoo/senjin)now due to the Valk and lil rags

My favorite pet these days is the Vengeful Porcupette (powerball/spirit spikes/flank) - it eats up undead and adders alike.

However, its not really that great against Idols, unless I'm on a team with Wild Magic, otherwise flank is pretty weak with sandstorm up. Spikes can still cause them some hurt though. I tend to run with other big hitter pets on some of my favorite teams so I'll try to use another pet to outdamage the Idol or I'll use something like an Imp/Senjin Fetish/Vengeful and try to pour out as much damage through Wild Magic as I can.

I don't run into Idols all that much though, I see far more DAH/Valk/Other Undead.

Speaking of the Vengeful Porcupette.

I just had a battle were mine started off against a Direhorn. My V.Porcupette was left standing with 73 health. In came a Stitched Pup. Now I got a triple-hit Flank with one crit, Pup missed its bite. Double-hit Flank, one crit, to kill the Pup while the pup did get some revenge killing the V.Porcupette. Taking out a full health pet in two turns is damn awesome sometimes, especially when you only got 73 health. :)

In another battle my speed buffed V.Porcupette faced a Chi-Chi. I just love it when they use Fire-Quills against Spirit Spikes. The Quills do just enough damage, 7 damage went through the shield, to get through the shield so that they take the spirit spike damage in return. This poor full health Chi-Chi did a total of 14 damage getting hit for 1100(550+600 or so) in return. Rarely happens but very funny when it does.

It may be odd to answer my own post but I mentionned the p/p Emporer Crab, yesterday.. i faced an s/s DAHatch, Unborn Valk (b/b) and Warbot .. you may find it hard to believe but the Crab essentially soloed the 3 of them!!

It wasnt what you'd call a 'perfect' solo job.. i did a dazzling dance vs the adder, switched immediately to the crab thinking that the Valk would be brought in... I left the Crab all the way and soloed the 3... note that the Valk missed 2 shadow shocks

Note too that the Crab waited out the minefield so that atk was wasted (and 1 missile miss)

I felt the player didnt play it that well (why bother with a minefield at all until sure the crab would die ..poor observation of the crab's CD on heals)
---------------

But still.. the pet is crazy valuable :!:
