I'm a little disappointed at the inclusion of "pups" which are an identical model, just slightly scaled down.

Sort of a lazy cop out =/

Yeah, but some of the pups, like the Maylayan Quillrat Pup, have a different coloration than their parents. But the ones with the same coloration *are* a total cop out...

why would they need a different model for the same animal? kittens are just smaller cats after all :P

I think his point is: "why make two different pets that are absolutely the same except that one is bigger and the other is smaller?"

IMHO that's a good thing though... it allows us to choose between a bigger or a smaller pet... I want the small ones :3

because animals have babies too? :P and the pet battles seem to focus on baby animal and little versions of other mobs/bosses.

If you mean the giant turtle, then no, there shouldn't be.
If you mean the Jade Forest, then yes, there's gobs of them.

Has anyone found a wild silk worm? I've seen them come out of the coccoons ( sp) in Silken Fields, but they aren't engaging in battles?

Not yet, unfortunately. The only two pets I haven't seen yet in Pandaria are the silkworms and the amorous roosters (which I've only seen spawn during a Tillers daily for Old Hillpaw - and none of them wanted to battle :( ).
