Still no tiny carp for me and since I keep Koi (Japanese Carp) I wish Mumpher and the developers would have used some real variety names as they often use real minerals for ores and gems and plant names and such.
So maybe they will see this and make us some pretty future Koi pets

I like to put numbers to the whittling away of my sanity :)

Am a bit late to this conversation, but yes, there is an addon that can handle it. Rarity DOES indeed handle it quite well as that is the one I am using. All you have to do is add in the zones to do the count.

First you go to Custom Tab after opening up the options.
Type in name of new item to track
Select item is obtained from fishing.
Type of item is companion
Input item ID number from Wowhead
Type in the zones they come from without any spaces between Zone names. ie Vale of Eternal Blossoms,Townlong Steppes
You could select from pool if you want to count pool counts, but I did not.
Chance to catch is 5000

And that is it in a nutshell. Hope this helps.

Nothing too new to add to what has already been posted, but my stats for those I've caught so far all in open water, no pools ...

Tiny Green Carp (Valley of Four Winds) - - Skill 710
Off pier near Fish from Tiller Dailies

18 Krasarang Paddlefish
25 Emperor Salmon
45 Golden Carp
3 Boxes
1 Nat Pagle Fish
1 Tiny Green Carp

93 Casts <-- why can't they all be like that?!

Tiny Blue Carp (Vale of Eternal Blossoms) - Skill 785 (Went and made some fancy lures when I was catching a lot of carp)
The lake near Shrine of Seven Stars with Kalan'ii keeping me company

445 Golden Carp
169 Jewel Danio
105 Krasarang Paddlefish
58 Emperor Salmon
14 Boxes
1 Nat Pagle Fish
1 Tiny Blue Carp

793 Casts

Tiny White Carp (Kun-Lai Summit) - Skill 785
"Lake" east of Temple of the White Tiger, southern edge, northern edge has a hungry yeti that likes to go into the water for a dip and doesn't like company

360 Golden Carp
79 Tiger Gourami
2 Octopus
2 Shrimp
6 boxes
1 Tiny White Carp

450 Casts

Tiny Red Carp (Townlong) - Skill 710 (back down to 710 ran out of fancy lures)
Lake in Fields of Niuzao by Zusshi, just stood on my little rock fishing in open water

169 Golden Carp
92 Emperor Salmon
106 Redbelly Mandarin
7 Crates
1 Tiny Red Carp

374 Casts

Never been so happy to be done with fishing, these numbers are not exact, I fished A LOT before I decided to sit down and just fish open water and get it done ... got revered with Nat, fished 100 fish of the day every day ... RNG is random.

White carp, not so bad. First one so I wasn't really counting. Probably in the 500 casts range. Green was even faster, I estimate around ten to fifteen stacks, so under 300. Blue took longer, around 800 to 900 casts.

Red on the other hand: 2500 and counting. Ugh. I think the Red carp is a lie!

I have been fishing for it for approximately 11 hours so far today. I am going to have to sleep eventually. I hate you, RNG.

Cheers!
Dak.

Edit 1- add another thousand to that. The red carp is the bain of my existence. Well, at least today. More tomorrow! It will be mine! Shakes fist.

My limited, anecdotal experience: Both carp pets that I've gotten have come from the big Krakkanon pools.

I received my green carp in under 100 casts from a fish of the day pool . Many thousands later, on each of the other 3, and I still only have the green. This will be one of the most frustrating pets to catch for those with bad rng, I much prefer rare pets like the darkmoon eye, where at least I only waste a few minutes a day on failing to get it!

Edit: Whining helps, 200 casts later I got the red carp!

Oh well, still not even one of the carp. I keep trying, every day, with 200-300 casts per day. More than that, and I have no game time for anything else. Clearly, RNG loves some of you a lot, if you can get one in 93 casts, or even 700 casts! I see that some folks are using lures..does this help increase the odds of a carp pet? I am at max fishing skill, so I had believed that lures would not add anything. :(

I just captured my last carp, so all done!

I had been fishing in pools, fish of the day spots, etc. I had caught thousands of fish, and got my green pretty early with no luck on the other three. I used all of the above information on fishing in open water, and was able to catch the next 3 fish with 216, 496, and 590 attempts each. For each of them, I used a +30 pole, +5 hat, and +75 lure that would occasionally drop off. All three tiny carps were caught while catching a 'golden carp' as the primary fish.

My Experience so far:
Leveled 0-600 purely on Pools in the Vale, + ~700 or so open water fish afterward from the little pool with the Crab in it.

No Carp.

I'm still 0/4

So, I now understand that open water will work for catching the pet carp? I will try that tonight..with fancy pole, hat and lures..and see what happens. Is there an area thats promising?

Not sure if it was blind luck, or total coincidence, but here's what I found:

Fishing from pool exclusively - well over 6000 casts with nary a fish in sight. Got frustrated, and decided to fish ONLY in open water.

With a fishing skill peaking at 840 (don't ask) I had all 4 within 1000 estimated casts. Including the red one, which actually was the fastest catch, I'd estimate around 150 casts.

Green - Next to stormstout brewery while waiting for Galleon raid to arrive
Red - Plopped myself down next to Nalash spawn
White - lake just south of the temple in Kun Lai
Blue - the twinkly lake near Aki

On a side note - the money made from fishing is over 20k gold and rising ><

I finally got my red carp yesterday. I guess I'm averaging out all of the low cast numbers. Not counting crates, it took me 154 full stacks of fish to get it. I started with the spinefish daily, then the next couple days, I fished near the temple in TS. Finally pulled one up on my third day.

Good luck all!

I fish these once or twice a day for Paglefish. I'm also hoping that your anecdotal works for me too soon!

Still no carp as of yet

Depends on which you hope to catch. Red is the only one I caught in open water in Townlong, the lake near Niazao Fields.
White is ocean waters where you catch shrimp/octopus.
Green in Vo4W, Jade, Krasarang, inland.
Blue... umm I think Vale (I caught mine in a Redbelly Mandarin school in Townlong).

I'm sure there are more places, but that's a good start.

I finally got my first tiny carp last night a white one. I started trying open water for a week at places mentioned on wow-forums with no luck and since I have ancient charm I figured my chances in pools had to be better, so been doing pools since. Using 4 toons and fishing buddy keeping totals of each local area (mostly daily pools) I could kind of get a decent count of total casts and I was around 3000 when I got the white carp.
The funny thing, I was doing pools for Nat Reputation and caught it in a reef octopus swarm, I did not even know they could be caught in those pools, I just assumed since they were carp it had to be fresh water. Now if my rng would just be nicer to me like many of you that have all 4 in less casts I could get back to playing the game more. :D

Finally caught my white fish. Lately I've been catching Pagle fish on daily basis since I might as well go for the hat if I'll be fishing tons of fish anyways. So while getting today's Flying Tiger Gourami in the Veiled Stair, I decided to fish until the lure ended and to my surprise the Tiny White Carp came up in the last few casts.

I did a mix of open water and pool fishing before getting it though and here are the numbers:
  • Pools in Krasarang (Reef Octopus and Giant Mantis Shrimp): 700 fish
Open water in Veiled Stair: 749 fish

    Total: 1 449

Aaaand caught the Tiny Red Carp now too. ^^ I really didn't expect it to pop up so soon but it did. I started fishing in the lake in the very north of Townlong Steppes and after 250ish fish I got it. But like with white one, I did some mixed fishing between open water and pools before:
  • Pools in Dread Wastes: 919 fish
Open water in Townlong: 256 fish

    Total: 1 175 fish

Not sure how much use this will be. I didn't track all my casts since I didn't install Fishing Buddy til after I had the Blue and Green, and had spent a while looking for the white and red. Also, I did the fishing on my desktop and laptop, and don't feel like looking up the exact numbers to tally them, but I tried to keep my casts in increments of 500.

Blue, less than an hour fishing in open water in the vale.

Green, fished the daily fish in various spots for several days before I saw the post about fishing from Fish's dock. When I started fishing from there, I got it in under an hour.

White, fished open ocean in various spots for the daily fish. When I started tracking, it was under 500 fish at the pool south of the temple in Kun-Lai Summit.

Red, fished the lake of stars for several days for the quest fish, and ran out whatever lure I had before I started tracking. I split my time between the Lake of Stars in Dread Waste and the lake near the Temple of Nunzio in Townlong Steppes. Fished 1500ish in Dread Wastes and 2500ish in Townlong Steppes, I caught it in Townlong.

It's worth noting that it's entirely possible, if you don't do marathon fishing sessions, to get to exalted with Nat Pagle. The hat you can get has the 10 min 150 lure on it, so that might be easier than stocking up on the heat-treated lures.

My wife got 2 carps with less than 100 total casts and hasn't tried the ther two. I fished every day this week with nothing to show for it but tons of iron paw tokens.
