wasnt there a new pet for this year or something different. cant remember why i was excited for this event to start lol

They didn't add a new pet, but they did add a Box of Pet Supplies that can have things like rare upgrade stones, Perky Pug costumes and +% Xp pet treats in it.

There's also a new Green Balloon toy from the toy vendor in Stormwind. Perhaps that's what you're thinking of?
