upgrading higher level pets

I've been led to believe that pet quality affects the amount that a pets stats increase when it levels. If I upgrade a higher-level pet to rare, would its stats still be still be "uncommon" at that moment - as it had leveled to that point as uncommon - or do all of its stats jump as if it had always been rare since level 1?

All of the stats will increase as if it had always been rare. When you upgrade quality, the stats automatically increase/upgrade regardless of the pets level.

And it is true that the stats increase when quality is higher / upgraded. For example....

Perky Pug is uncommon by default. If you level it to 25 as uncommon it shows the following stats:
1225 Health, 297 Power, 252 Speed

If you were to stone it at level 25, it would show the following increased stats:
1319 Health, 322 Power, 279 Speed

Hope that helps :)

A rare pet at the same level as an uncommon pet will have higher stats. However, when you upgrade higher level pets to rare quality, they will lose levels in the same way as wild pets lose levels when they are captured. Levels 16-20 will lose 1 level. Levels 21-25 will lose 2 levels.

to answer your question more precisely it doesnt matter what quality you level as when you upgrade it to rare

stats are only based on quality and breed

tho upgrading to rare before level 15 is best as you wont have repeat any levels
