Thank you very much for this guide on the Pandaria tamers, I appreciate the work put into its compilation. I've just picked up the Pandaria Spirit Tamers quest and have had my tail handed to me repeatedly by the Thundering Pandaria Tamer. I've used the same team for every pet battle, only changing things up with pet order and primary attack. My Dream Team is (all lvl25 rare):

Strand Crawler either 1,1,1 or 2,1,1
Clockwork Gnome 1,1,1
Nether Fairy Dragon 2,1,1

With this team I've reliably beaten every Tamer up through Aki.

Unfortunately, I didn't see a recommendation for the Thundering Pandaria Spirit in this guide. Guess it's back to trial and error

So as a complete newbie to pet battles I take it that both the Anubisian and Drake need to be level 25 to do this strat?

Any suggestions for someone with literally no high level pets?

Gold Phraide! Absolute Gold mate.

Used this guide today and works perfectly except for only some very very rare instances of RNG.
Currently using my Breed #8 P/S Rare Emerald Proto-whelp, and seems to work fine. I do have the P/P #4 as an uncommon, but just can't bring myself to stone it!

Well done Phraide, an asset to the community.

Sandstorm is getting nerfed in 5.4 which is going to break a lot of this excellent guide. Hopefully we can work out an alternative.

For the Thundering Pandaren Spirit, the following is a strat that I found and started using. I have not lost once yet, and have beaten him with the first two of the lineup multiple times without having to use the 3rd pet. Hope this helps some of you.

Thundering Spirit line up: [lvl 25 Rares]
1. Elfin Rabbit (2,2,1)
2. Emperor Crab (1,1,1)
3. Clockwork Gnome (1,1,1)

vs Pandaren Earth Spirit:
- Burrow > Dodge > Flurry
- From here on cast Burrow > Dodge when off cooldown and use Flurry as filler untill Earth Spirit is dead.
vs Oily Slimeling:
- Continue same exact rotation with your Rabbit on the Slimeling until your Rabbit dies.
- Switch to Emperor Crab
- Shell Shield > Renewing Mists > Snap
- From here on, recast Shell Shield and Renewing Mists when each has only 1 charge left on the buff, using Snap as a filler until Slimeling is dead.
vs Darnak the Tunneler:
- Continue using Emperor Crab rotation until Darnak or your Crab is dead.
- If your crab dies, chain cast Clockwork Gnomes Metal Fist until Darnak dies.

Awesome guide...

It even worked with an Emerald Proto-Whelp uncommon Quality lvl. 21

Will turn it into rare ASAP and level it to 25 ;)

Thx for the guide...

Hi guys i made a downloadable format of this guide, i gave due credit to Phraide by the way. I also included the abilities on the beginning...for lazy people like me. I just print it out so I dont have to alt tab...cause I do this on a nearly daily basis anyway.

I guess I cant post external links yet, please check My Bio and just copy paste that, it has a dropbox link.

Love this guide. thanks. Made 1k gold yesterday leveling 2 pets 1-25 for someone. Takes about 5 dailies to get a pet to 25. Love watching it go from 1 to 12 on first battle.

I don't even have an Anubisath Idol yet. I substitute Qiraji Gaurdling which works fine for those fights that only require Sandstorm and Crush, two abilities QG has in common with Anub Idol, in addition to being humanoid.

Thank you for this guide! I'm just getting started, and my highest level pets are in the 16-18 range. I should be able to get the recommended pets in a few days.

I have a few questions though. This says it is a beginner guide. Do I need to get the recommended pets up to level 25 before I can use this guide?

Also someone commented that sandstorm has been nerfed. Prior to leveling to 25 I would like to know if the strat still works since it seems dependent on sandstorm.

Thanks again!

should still be viable you just have to cast it when it is off cd instead of having several more rounds of the weather affect left.

Welcome to Patch 5.4 Thundering Spirit!

You may have noticed that the Thundering Spirit has updated his roster in a way that makes his blob into a Magical instead of a Critter, fear not - there is hope! I'm going to list my 2-man sure-fire exp-boosting team here for all to see.

Pets:
Rabbit with =>301 speed (Scratch, Dodge, Burrow)
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling (Breath, Bombing Run, Decoy)
Pet that can get experience (Any)

Start with Rabbit, Scratch - Dodge - Scratch - Burrow - Scratch untill it tries stunning again - Dodge repeat. When the Elemental dies, switch to your Dragonling, use Decoy and just Breath all the way. When the Magical dies use Bombing run and breath untill the Dragonling dies. Switch to the exp pet. Switch to the Rabbit.
This part is the trickiest part. If the Beast just used Burrow to knock out your Dragonling you will take a hit but no biggie, it's Elemental so you'll take reduced damage. In this case you should do Scratch - Burrow - Scratch - Dodge - Scratch - Scratch - Burrow - Scratch - etc. untill the Beast is down.
If the Beast used Stone Rush to take out your Dragonling you won't take any damage and the battle is essentially over. In this case you should do Burrow - Scratch - Dodge - Scratch - Scratch - Burrow - Scratch - etc. untill the Beast is down.

Congratulations, you just steamrolled the Thundering Pandaren Spirit!

This is - by far - the most helpful and interesting guide I have ever written on the topic of pets. Thanks!

I hope the trend of beginner guides like this continues in the next expac. It was disappointing to see that the 5.4 guide was focused entirely on 'best' comp rather than having an 'accessible' version and a 'best' version like Phraide's guides.

What is a "beginner's guide" to you? What is your definition of "accessible"? The thing that makes this guide here so useful is you can do all of the tamers with just a few pets, correct? Well what will happen if in Draenor they add a whole NEW set of Master Tamers that you just can't beat with only 4 or 5 level 25 pets? If the beginner's guide contains 28+ different pets to manage the job, is it still a "beginner's guide" or just another collection of good teams like the 5.4 guide?

As the author of the 5.4 guide you're criticizing I think you are misunderstand something here, too. This current guide wasn't redone (by me) because it wasn't the project I was tackling. Not only that, it hasn't been redone by anyone else yet (apparently) because it still works! The fights haven't changed enough to change the slow, methodical strategies in THIS guide. The quick and lethal strats in the veteran's guide in some places fell apart (or just didn't live up to the requirements) when things changed - so they had to be rewritten because as published they would NOT work and people were getting frustrated (myself and my fellow guild tester included).

Keep in mind - people ALSO criticized the 5.4 guide I put together because I refused to use pets that were unavailable or required real-world money to purchase. I have many of them, but I wanted the guide to be within the reach of the largest # of players, old AND new. None of the strats are "elite", they just require some effort to collect the core pets. But you can't please all of the people all of the time -- if someone doesn't want to have to get Raiding with Leashes II pets then the guide wont work for them, etc, etc.

I'd really like to see, before Draenor comes out, this site giving us a way to have a top level post in a forum for each tamer out there, where below it we can discuss different teams that work and provide the work to prove it out, and then EVERYONE can see the strats people think work best. Then we all can find what will work for us based on what we have and we can all contribute in an easier to search medium than the pages of posts that always swell the guide posts into uselessness unless the guide author maintains it (which I am trying to do).

Thanks for the guide. I was about to ask if this guide was still relevant as it's for 5.3 but, the previous post confirmed the situation.

If I may be so bold, I don't think the poster meant any disrespect but, I've read the 5.4 guide and I'm working through it however, by virtue of needing ~40 max level pets of the correct breed, and this requiring 2 it's a valid criticism to level at the 5.4 guide not really feeling like a beginner guide.

The goals of the two guides are different but, needing 2 easy to get pets is most definitely beginner status. ;)

Thanks for the hard work from all of you on this site, it's helped me immensely.

Definitely agree with you there! A guide that works with the fewest possible pets definitely makes things a lot easier for someone just getting started. And I hope when WoD comes out (if they add all new trainers) that something similar can get worked out. We'll just have to wait and see if it's possible - depends on what Blizzard decides they want the tamers to be for (training new pets or as just final end-game content with rare/time consuming rewards like the tourney).
