Are all these New BATTLE PETS even the same as Pet Companions? There just seem to be soooooo Many?

I have to say I am a bit anxious. Yes, I have played and still do occansionally play Pokemon. YET I only do it for the fun and cutness factor. I have yet to lose to a gym leader... but I am really no good with battles. NOW my sons especially my youngest one is a PRO. He might have to put me through ...
