You don't trade the stone, you trade the pet you want upgraded, as long as it can be caged

Added a couple more critter stones, and I think another mechanical last night! Gief beast and flyers you horrid bags!

Not sure if it's any help, but I only seemed to get mine after I stopped fishing from pools. I actually fished mine up at the lake south of the Temple of the White Tiger in Kun-Lai, in the lake furthest south in that little sub zone.

Seems most people I speak to are in the same boat, as there are so many beasts / flyers compared to say Undead or Humanoid pets. Blizz really need a way to address this imbalance

Thanks for the offer Dash, your refusal to accept my free stone left me somewhat perplexed!! Anyhoo, was offered 3 mecha stones for a mix of mine from Stoppit, and after a smooth trade Mecha stones are off my list! Only down to the same as everyone else now, beast and flyers... Lets hope Blizz sorts...

I vaguely remember someone stating that they saved a number of bags, waiting for the day the patch hit that offered BOP family stones, and when they opened them, they received a number of stones. This was from bags gained PRE-patch. I might be wrong, but it's around these forums somewhere I'm sure...

It's easy. I make a level 1 alt on your realm (or you mine). We trade pets. I log my alt and upgrade said pet, log back, pop it in a cage and hand it over.

Easy peasy, as long as you have some trust. If it's any help, I've traded a few people here with no complaints
