Just found this on the AH for 160g so, of course, I bought it straight away no more killing the horses for me :)

After these not spawning at all the first time I came here I tried killing the small frogs and snakes around Sporeggar like some other comments suggested and one spawned within 5 mins, it was rare :) not sure if it was coincidence but I'm very happy
