Re: Kirin Tor Familiar
The various schools of Magic are an homage to the classic, "pencil and paper" RPG, Dungeons & Dragons™. And that is the prime reason why I have labored so hard to acquire this pet. Most of WoW's gamers these days aren't old enough to remember this game, but I spent many an hour, clustered around a table with my fellow nerds. WoW and other MMORPGs are the realization of our most fervent (non-sexual) fantasies from those days.

Technically, it's not so much an "arachnid" as an elemental creature... like a Gyreworm is.
Love mine. Been trying for it for a week or two now. My wife is very jealous. She's been trying for much longer!

Re: Lil' XT
Lil' XT also attacks any Clockwork Rocket Bots. A bunch of people -- Horde and Alliance, alike -- just had a massive robot demolition display in front of Dalaran's North Bank. Rocket Bots blowing each other apart, and then getting wiped out by Lil' XT.

The animations are very fun. And it's especially cool, being able to collect pets from the opposite faction. (I'm a Hordie)
I just wish this pet didn't look so... pixelated. >.<

Re: Tuskarr Kite
I was still standing by Landro, having just gotten my Tuskarr Kite last night, when I got struck by lightning. My wife could see the flash, and hear the thunder-effect, all the way over at the bank in Booty Bay!The Tuskarr Kite has a little glowing candle-effect inside the fish's mouth.
In Japan, on Boy's Day, families fly a large carp-looking flag for every son in the family. This is much like that.

Re: Dragon Kite
Now that pets are persistent in 4.1, your Dragon Kite will "re-summon" when you hearth, use a teleporter, or jump on some other means of interzone conveyance. And so, you'll find your trusty dragon kite changing colors randomly as you run around Azeroth. Pluswin!
