I created a gnome mage on a very low population server and engaged in critter-cide all through the starting area and the Toxic Airfield, killing every irradiated roach, alpine hare and snow cub that spawned.
I saw only one Irradiated Roach battle pet, but approximately 15 Fluxfire Felines:

During that time, I saw a few fellow lowbies (none of which were after pets) and one 90, who made a quick circuit and left.
