I would say don't give up on this pet. I believe my realm has been buggy as well. Multiple attempts during different sandstorms have been made. 12a server time a sandstorm started and 2 hours later I finally was able to get one. The spawned near the edges for me(the gaping chasm) primarily but a few did spawn in the middle. I would suggest being considerate to those looking for this since obviously there is some sort of issue with crz. Good luck!

I can confirm that the pattern for this pet drops from treasure of the vale, which is the reward you get from the last daily for the golden lotus. It takes 3 wild jade and 3 spirit of harmony to make. I do believe the pattern is still a world drop though. 

Like any true pet collector I've been wanting this for some time and would occasionally try for it via my healer with the satchels and when I was doing archaeology, I would kill everything just to try my luck. I went to help a friend get poygeyan, the rare cat in stv and was trying a theory about killing things around the area where it spawns would make it spawn.We were chit chatting and I had killed maybe a few tigers and lo and behold I looted one and there it was. All my luck is used up lol!

So my amusing story about this little guy is that it's one of the last dropped pets that I needed so I decided to roll up my sleeves and go farm it. I figured aoe looting plus aoe killing was a win/win. I dled the rarity addon just to keep track. I spent 2hours ish which was about 1500 kills and decided to call it a night. My boyfriend decides that he was going to try farming it for me and got it after about 20 min there which I figured was about 500 kills! I was sooo happy but frustrated lol.

I was so excited to get this little guy. I wanted to add a murloc to my collection but started collecting pets after all of them were released.I bought mine on ebay just the other day and there is a bunch of them going for a pretty affordable price. In fact cheaper than it costs to go to or buy the pass for blizzcon. I'm incredibly happy with him and I love the little tricks he does!

I found this video helpful since I wasn't entirely sure where I needed to be. I waited a week before the quest ever showed up and saw my npc scan go off 3 times before the daily underground economy was available from ricket(inside the crumbling depths) (you cannot see her when the quest isn't available). You cannot track her from above as a hunter or with any buff. You have to into the cave to find her. After I got the quest I followed the instructions!

A suggestion to those farming this pet since world drop farms are the most painful. If you don't have the timbermaw rep start working on that because it then serves a purpose to the farming (and at least for me makes it easier) or if you haven't finished/or have never done all the quests in winterspring then work on those. I farmed the rep for the timbermaw and the pet did drop for me although it may not be the case since it's 1/10,000 drop. Don't give up hope on this little scaley beauty!

Day 3 of farming: Sigh,rounding the 500th kill or so.. who even knows at this point.. got the bf farming as well. I hope to see it soon!
After about 5-6 days of farming (1-2k kills total) from anywhere from 1-3 hours it finally dropped after 130 kills. I was so excited to finally see it! I thought it was just a myth for a while. I did make about 2500 gold off of leather and saw terror spinner twice.

My suggestion. Go to swamp of sarrows and farm from stonard to the harborage. I caught mine after 2 hours and who knows how many kills ( I watched 3 ep of hercules :D )If you are a hunter they track as elementals. Keep in the water channels and keep making the circuit. I've only ever farmed once before and got incredible lucky. Once I got past the 20 min mark it was easy to just sit back and relax. He's a cute little pile of ooze and worth it!
