Strategy wise, this pets looks like it's designed to be swapped.  Everything it does is 'over time.'  I think this can make it a very strong pet for difficult battles, but I don't know if it's the kind of pet you would use for something like farming for rares.

I just purchased this pet as my first pet store pet, and I look forward to seeing how he performs once he's up to the level of my other 'main' pets.

I found farming for the rare works really well with my level 11 cat companion.  This appears to be my best shot at obtaining my first 'rare' dragon as a beginner to pet battles.

Because this dragon frequently changes the weather to moonlight, the cat heals really well with devour when finishing off the mobs.  I usually end at close to full health.

So basically, if you're barely high enough pet level to obtain one of these, like I am, this might be a good pet to pull out.
