Tons of Shale Hatchlings (Amethyst, Topaz, and Crimson) are around Therazane's Throne. Just teleport up there and collect away.

Managed to find four rare Amber Moths in a row as secondaries when engaging Mongoose and Mongoose Pups in Townlong Steppes (71,82).

Definitely not the best battle pet out there. Counterstrike is a great attack, but is counterproductive since Powerball and Tongue Lash increase speed. Which makes the Tier 2 abilities rather lame.  (Survival is okay, but only really useful for leveling and/or you have DoTs on the opponent.)

If you are looking for a rare, I had my best luck getting them as secondaries when I engage Marsh Fiddlers or regular Bandicoons.

The unfortunate part is that I find a lot of these in the lava around the Ruins of Baa'ri (56,41), but it takes a bit of weaving and positioning to manage a battle against them due to a high level of area obstruction. But if you do manage to find a sweet spot, that's where I managed to snag my two rares virtually back-to-back.

However, sometimes if you engage here your character will be in the lava and take damage while you're battling, so take watch.

Managed to snag two rare Cats back to back as secondary pet while farming the Fledging Nether Rays. Caught mine both around Manaforge Duro.

I almost ("almost") feel bad because the person who sold this on my server did it for only 3,000g, so I snatched it up. Now there are a few on the AH, with the cheapest being 100,000g. Lucky me!

I caught my rares in the Twilight Highlands, and they seem to be rather frequent. A lot more of them than other rares I've been trying to get.

Level 19-20 Chickens also inhabit Howling Fjord. I caught a rare one in Westguard Keep.
